GRRR!!!! HEAT SHIELDS!

So remember how I was trying to find the source of the weird noise coming from under my hood.... I thought it was the tensioner but I was wrong, its the stinking manifold heat shields AGAIN! It's my passenger side one and this makes the 3rd one in a year and a half to break. Is anyone not running these?

I can see why they break at the bolt holes. There only as thick as a piece of paper and made of probably the crappiest pot metal to ever find an automobile. Anyone have a part number?

Mine used to make that awful rattling.

So, I took a long crowbar and bent the shield slightly so it wasn't contacting the exhaust manifold.

It would contact it at the rear of the manifold. Very annoying sound. Just bend it out slightly.

Passenger side only.

See the part that pisses me off is I just replaced both sides not even a year ago. I would love to just scrap them but I've heard yes and no's. I've heard they're there to prevent fires from tall grass to they protect the wires to, they serve no purpose trash them...

If the srt engineers put them there, then it was for a reason. Safe to say that they are not there for looks.

They didn't put catch cans in them but these trucks need them badly. I'm gonna take mine off and see what happens.

Personally I didn't like the rattle or look so I did remove them while I had manifolds. I never had a problem with MSD wires but stock or inferior wires may melt. No guarantees, lol. Best move is to rid the manis and get headers, lmfao :rock:

IMVHO our manifolds are not that bad lookin.

if memory serves, the heat shield can be used on either side. {thats for the diper heat shield}
