HELP!....

what do you mean crank speed an not cam speed the sound?

I think what he means is by the sound he thinks it is the crank due to the number of times the click is being heard over a given time frame. The Crank rotates at a different speed then the cam. It is the same for helicopter. High speed vibes come from the tail rotor. Low speed from the main rotor. They are both driven off the same engine, but through gear reduction one rotates faster then the other. I think this is what Silver meant anyways. :dontknow:

ok that makes sence...so let me ask safe to drive or not?..its my only ride..that is here i drive a diffrent truck to work...but its 45 miles from me......i have the drive train warrenty...so should i say f it an drive it home or call my mom to bring my work truck an a trailer

I would say work truck and trailer. I really don't know if driving it will do any more engine damage. But breaking down on the side of the road at night won't be real safe either.

I would not drive it, or you will be calling the trailer on the side of the road . Or it could last , but its only a engine.

How is youre temp

The other concern with driving is the one thing in the engine that is broken ends up braking other things as it comes apart. It is like a flat tire. Sure you can drive with a flat tire, but once it starts coming off then you end up with a whole lot more damage.

good advice

That sounds .................. not good. I would not drive it.........like Stick said, it would suck to break down on the side of the road late at night. Definatly remove Nos etc......

all the temp gauges look good... i drove it about 5-6 miles after it started to make the noise.. i'v got friends all on the way home so if i have to drive...i'v already called them and let them know what happening so i figuer i'll just take it easy on the way home... my moms in my black truck so.. idk still at my gf's house so we'll see if anybody else knows what it might be chime ini'm all ears i'm going to make a list.....also i should look for a dealer with a viper tech right? not just some ol" shade tree monkey man...that works on normal cars right?

Absolutely!! Above all else!

I'm with Scott on this. Not knowing what the problem is or how much more it's going to come apart, park it. If your on your way home and something else lets loose, it could come through the block or bend valves or just distribute trash through the rest of the engine making it an anchor.

thanks man but i'm headed north....right now i'm in lorena but will be headed back to hillsboro later tonight...i'm just kinda at a losss for words cause i know it's gonna cost me an arm an a leg to get it fixed

Alright bro. You're only 1 1/2 hours away. Just let me know if you need anything. Good luck

The crank makes two revolutions for every one revolution of the cam. If it's louder under the truck then it's probably a rod.

Don't drive it!! The dealer will find out you modded it and void your warranty. If you drive it you are going to pay even more to fix it.

I agree with the concensus.. dont drive it.. .get it trailered home.. and pull the mods off.. then take it in.. this limiting what damage has been done.

All of these engines have loud valvetrains.. but.. that sound is not a good one, or one that I have ever heard before.

I tend to to agree... either bent rod, or stuck/bent valve.

Sounds like valve train, broken rocker or bent push rod, possable spun rod or crank bearing??by the bell housing rear rockers? You could pull a valve cover and have a look?
