how would u spend your first $1500

so i got to ask the question.

dc vs sct tuner.......

i asked wyoram what he thought. i would like a few opinions over here. i dont want to turn this into a post on just that subject so short response is fine. but cost vs. performance.

or as a few of u said best bang for the buck.

with the idea in mind i dont think i will ever do turbo or charger. i want to try to keep this truck simple so it will last.

If you want MY honest opinion . . .

I'd wait and see how this SCT thing pans out. Some are impressed, some are dissatisfied, some are still waiting on their tuners. . . I personally want the SCT tuner, but haven't been overly impressed as of yet. I know two people, personally, that possess them, and they both have some issues/bugs to work out. I think that SCT/KRC was swamped with the first initial orders. Wait until the craze dies down a bit and they get caught up, and some of the folks to get their bugs worked out I'm willing to bet SCT is the way to go. This is still a "fresh" concept and there's still alot to be sorted through.

I (personally) have never been a fan of a mail order tune. What works on one truck, doesn't always work on the next. Air values are different all across the country, as well as altitudes etc. However, almost all have reported positive results from the DC/BG mail order tune.

To sum it up, I really think the SCT is the way to go, once they get caught up and get all their orders filled. Marty will work with ya via email exchanging tunes to get the most HP/TQ from the truck.

brad said t stat and roz didnt. whats the scoop on it and is it nessesary. and i am hear different tstats in different posts. like 170s and 175s. what should i be going with for the ideas u guys are bouncing off to me.

i am gettin the idea that cat delete should be there and a tuner and air intake.

is a cat delete a good idea without doing anything else to the exuast or do i need to do more at a time there.

and what should i expect to pay on each of these things so i have an idea what will cost what.

170 T Stat for sure. Don't go cat delete just order some Hi Flows from justin along with his mids (my opinion). Either the SCT or DC Stage2 tune is awesome compared to the factory tune. And yes def get the CAI.

The parts will cost you less than $1500.

Tstat will probably be required with any PCM upgrade -usually it's a "given". Plus T-stats are cheap and can be purchased at NAPA for less than $20.

When deleting the cats, you can anything you wish. Simply delete the cats, and leave the stock exhaust, or ditch everything from the manifolds to the tail-pipes.

Catless Mids - $150 - $400
Catback - $400+
K&N, CAI - $50 - $400
PCM - $300+

All the prices depend on where you get them, and whether you buy new or used . . . You can find almost all of it used somewhere on this forum! :D

Good Luck!

Welcome dude................Roz has some good advice. FYI, deleting the cats defiantly gives you some cheap power but it does make the truck loud. I mean loud outside and in the cab. So if your a stealth guy, rethink it, if your loud and proud, then go for it.

Mine is a simple backyard cat delete with the factory muffler and resonator still in place and I really like the sound and there was a good performance difference. I did the SCT tuner at the same time and are very pleased with it.

i am new to the srt10s. i have a stock 05 QC

i am just wondering if guys could get me started and let me know where u would spend your FIRST $1500 on mods for this bad boy.

and also a little bit of feedback on how far i can go on an auto tranny. heard that can be a limitation....

goal is too run into the 13s at attitude (colorado) i have heard i run around 14.5 stock so basically how much is needed to cut .5-.7 off the 1/4.

thx sean

$1500.00 doesn't go very far with these rigs...but the stuff below will make a nice change-
A DC Performance Stage 2 flashed e.c.u. (or an SCT from them if you are planning more mods later; and it looks like you are).
A catback system..
A K&N drop in filter.
Cut the cats if you want but the trucks stink if you do that...If you do this later on, you will have to have it retuned so make this decision early.
One more thing, if you go with the flash and you don't change the t. stat, ask them to leave the fan duty cycle at the stock settings or your fan
will be roaring away trying to drop the engine temp to the 170 range.
Your altitude is similar to ours (sucks for power); these mods will help you reach your e.t. goals. Your tranny should be fine for quite a while at this power level, (keep the bands adjusted).
Welcome and have fun...

sct you can check codes and erase them and if you have to run back to dealership you can go back to stock in 10 mins

I can change my flashed PCM just as fast.I know both due alot for the Q/C.
Marty has been doing some great things with the sct.tuner.As far as reading codes,I would'nt know wtf I was looking at anyway!! Bottom line, go with either one and you will be happy!! Welcome to the club!!

honestly, don't do anything, just keep saving! once you got a few grand go get a used Roe!

IMO If you have a good muffler shop locally:dontknow: I would just have them cut off all the factory stuff and go with a custom setup:rock: Use 3'' pipe, magnafow mufflers and some nice stainless tips;) You will be much happier with the looks and have a few hundred left over doing catless mids and magnaflow catback:D

fort collins colorado. u guys are amazing on reply. i made the forum 12hrs ago and this shit is full of amazing info. thx a ton guys.

and one thing i saw was stealthy exuast or loud and proud. i am more of the stealthy for sure. i like what is there now but i know its restrictive =(

and sounds like tstat is cheap as shit so i will just go pick one of those up this weekend. $20 at napa sounds easy enough. hows install?

anyone have any good pics of their exhaust. like the under pic so i have something good to show my local muffler shop. again i want the quieter sound. i dont want loud and proud. performance is important as well. and that by the way is the funniest thing i have heard all day. it made my day.

Sound doesn't do anything as far as restricting the exhaust. I would just go with a stage II. after that just save up and get some FI.
I spent about $3500 on mods that gave me maybe an extra 50-60rwhp (stageII, headers, catless, magna) for another $3k I could have had a Roe with everything still stock be putting down 110rwhp+ not to mention the torque gains

For me, the SCT is a very worthwhile tool. But that is all it is, a tool.
The guy that can fill it up with the proper code is the guy you want tuning your vehicle.
Same result here- The DC/BG tune worked really well but with recent mods I needed a few other changes. A couple of dyno pulls told me what I needed to know and that info was provided to Chris Jensen and he nailed it the first time, via email.

I would say same as the others,FIRST thing would be a SCT Tuner (buy ounce and unlimited retunes for other mods and get a valet tune put in it so if you have to drop it off at a shop you can limit the rpm and speed-You never know!) A 170 T-Stat to go with tune,The CAI's are great, and if you like how the motor growls when you walk on it ,the CAI doubles the growl!(Everyone that rides in my truck loves the motor sound)-Theres a Volant CAI for sale here too right now, some guys swear by the Throttle bodies(better throttle response) also, And do something to help unrestrict the exhaust,If you want stealth then H-Flow cats would be the way and delete the resonators. And one more thing,If you got a QC get ahold of Stinker and get some 2" lowering shackles another cheap mod( around $65 or so),Those are JMO!

I would agree with most all of the advice you have gotten from everybody, (especially the hookers), but I would think that a Magna flow cat back exhaust is a very good starting point, T-Stat, K&N drop in filter works just as well as the more expensive CAI, it's just not flashy. You will also find that the Cal Tracs for your rear suspionsion is one of the most important add-ons for those of us on a budget. They really help with the traction issue. Then, if you want a peek at what will happen with a power booster, try a small shot of NOS before you go with the supercharger, but a SCT tuner does seem to be the best thing to help custom tune these motors. Just work with your dealer closely to get the best tune and price.

I think I have a tstat and magnaflow laying around... along with some other stuff. It'll be in the buy/sell section this weekend.

i like what u said joe. if i do high flow cats. is that something that i wont replace later if i decide to do more to the exhaust. the last thing i want to do is run over any mods. if i have to spend more instead of less to do it right the first time then i will.

thx sean

SCT flash & drop the rear...then start saving for FI
