FYI. What a pain in the royal a$$ but it's done. That lower left hand bolt can only be done by feel. The others aren't too bad. Expect to make a mess even though you empty the radiator. The thermo housing holds fluid and does not drain (at least mine didn't). I got mine from NAPA (613070) 170 thermostat. Stant makes a 160 degree thermo for those wanting to run even cooler but NAPA doesn't show it but Amazon does.

Have fun doing yours.

Does anybody know where to get the T stat locally in Los Angeles?
Try NAPA (613070). Stant (14537) and Gates (33577) make them as well. Those are the part numbers for the 170 degree thermo for our trucks.

Are the modifcations the need for cooler thermo? I am wondering what t he engineers at Chrysler missed? :dontknow: :dontknow: :2in1:

Some folks feel that the stock temp T-stat is a little warm. It's not hurting anything but a cooler engine helps avoid detonation etc. So some are getting a 170 t-stat to help the engine run a little cooler specially in warmer climates. My stock T-stat was a 185. Is that what everyone else is finding? I thought 190 was stock.

Mine runs at 200 on the button. So apparently the consensus is the cooler T stat is a good baseline mod for other things to come...i think this will be my first Mod

One thing many miss with the TStat is the fans. They are still going to kick on at the same temp. Meaning unless you are consistantly moving the 170 stat does no good.

If you want to run consistantly cooler you would need to adjust the fan activation to 10 degrees cooler.

How you do that?:dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

You need a programmer or have your PCM changed by someone who does.

or

Install a manual switch so you can turn on the fans at will.

I believe the DC performance and B&G Chrysler Performance PCM have the fan coming on a few degrees cooler if I'm not mistaken.

its for emission reasons. hotter engine reduces emissions.

Its the same damn things with the SRT8's.

Mine runs like 220 in the summer and thats considered normal.

its been nice the last few days in here and I've been breaking 200 easily in traffic!! Cant wait to get the 170 T-stat on!
