Just made a "maintainence" appt. at the dealership

LOOKING AT THAT..LABOR NOT TO BAD. HOWEVER, I WOULD OF PAST ON THAT THROTTLE BODY CLEANING. IT'S PART OF DOING THE FUEL INJECTION SERVICE.

Geeesh! $12.15 a quart? At least they got the quantity right. What is an oil flush? Is that where they take the plug out of the oil pan?

Sorry Portlandsrt, I hate seeing anyone get taken advantage of like this.

I asked the same thing about the oil flush. They said they actually put in some "detergent" and it creates a vaccuum and completely flushes the oil system. Is this complete BS?
I know Mobil1 is around $5-$6 a quart at Wal-Mart... I wonder if they would have gotten a discount if I would have brought my own oil. Oh well.

Really? I should call the dealership to clarify what exactly they did. Can you give me any insight?

We do oil flushes as well. at your mileage I wouldn't of recommended it. I typically recommend it if a cust has not changed their oil in 7k plus miles, or if we're doing an major engine repair. Is it a good service, yes I do believe it is. Would I have done it to my own vehicle at that mileage, no.

Holy f-ing sh!t!!!!

PortlandSRT- stop by here next time. I've got all the tools and won't charge you $45 to tighten your header bolts to 200 in-lbs.
$61 for a bottle of fuel injection cleaner and $89 in labor? It's $6 at WalMart (for the big bottle), and takes about 1 minute to put it in the tank.
$12.15 for a quart of Mobil1 0w-40? It's cheaper at Nordstrom's.

Viper drivetrain or not, that's just f-ing insane.

How many hours of labor did they charge you for?
- Truck went in at 4PM. That leaves 1 hour before closing time.
- Truck was picked up before 11AM. That's 4 hours if they get there at 7AM (3 hours if they get there at 8AM).
If I calculated the labor properly, that comes out to approx. $137/hr. (5 hrs.) or $170/hr. (4 hrs.).

Maybe I'm missing some customer perks from the dealership. Did you get free lap dances and drinks while you waited for them to do the truck?

Wow.

Yeah, $1100 is a lot of special treatment at the gentlemans clubs in Beaverton. ;) They didn't list how many hours they spent on the truck. But my bet is they didn't spend longer than 4 hours on it. Argh,,,,

Why ask for advice then go put yourself over your tire with your pants down?? I just don't understand.. that is an insane amount of money for some minimal maintenance issues. Toss some money my way next time before you burn it in your fireplace.

:dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:
Not to pick on you but damn I'm in the wrong business !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wait I am in the automotive business . After reading this and looking at that bill I now know why I dont have tons of money .I got it backwards
It's not supposed to be me shaving, cutting and getting screwed,,,,,,,,,,,it's suposed to be the Customer , Now I really feel stupid and I may even raise my rate come Mon morning ,,,,sheeeeeeeesh all these years wasted .
Have A Kind Day

All in all only two things are mind numbing to me.

$250 to change spark plugs and the $50 to tighten the headers! For what it cost you to tighten the headers you could have went and purchased your own Torque wrench!!!!!!!!!!

IMHO, you might benefit from this experience. Don't know what your level of experience is with a wrench but, I keep finding that many of the things that need to be done, or that I want to do can be done in the garage. While at first it seems intimidating, with the help of friends here, the amount of self satisfaction garnered from trying to do routine maintenance yourself is huge.

Then once you catch the modification bug...the demand for doing things yourself becomes more compelling. While I still lean towards having people who know, do my work for me, the things I do undertake have provided a lot of gratification. As you spend more time here, some of the things you have had done at the dealership will become second nature to you...Stinker gives us lots of detailed instructions on how to accomplish some of the more technical tasks...and others make great contributions on specific problems...

Welcome, and have a ball here.

Good point. I hadn't read his sig. I think they just changed the fluid. That probably helped some. Did you notice what a pleasant dealership it is? The work order say "Please perform" before each item. Isn't that special......

ouch, I can't belive they would do that? 1,100$ Just crazy!

OK, quick update. Makes me wish I was better with a wrench. Everything ended up costing me around $1100... You can see here. Feel free to comment.
