where are we getting the plugs/wires from...
been looking around, but i need some opinions, here...
i'm at 55k and haven't changed the plugs, so i figured i'd do both (and tell me you don't REALLY have to take off the intake to do it...please)
55,000 ! The plugs NEED changing. Betcha' the firing tip will be quite rounded by now. Change them and you'll pick up an easy 75 h.p.
I bought o.e.m. wires again....mild to moderate light show @ idle with the lights out ..not the worst I've seen..
Oddly, I have never had trouble with o.e.m. cables but I HAVE with some aftermarket ones over the years. I don't think they last any longer than o.e.m.s either.
The guys that sell f.i. kits recommend aftermarket wires....you can buy red ones that sort of match the valve covers and your ride.
Some of the plastic spark plug cable harnesses (attached to the valve cover bolts) will break, esp. on the Driver's side. They are on so fu***n tight that I think you could pull the engine with them.
Use the standard Champion plugs.
Pull the intake, you can clean all the bugs out from under there while your at it.
There are some bitchy little plastic clips that support the fuel injection harness to the manifold. Those WILL NOT survive the operation.
You can reuse the intake gaskets.
The rear bolts (driver's side) are a treat to get at.
You can also have a look at your intake valve guides while you're at it to see what condition they are in. Make sure YOU are in good condition (I see Michelob was recommended) when you lift the manifold back into place. A good job for (2), if only to watch you don't pinch a cable or whack a coil tower. That would be bad.
