Hi Everyone-NBT's wife Dawn here, I just wanted to say from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU all for the support and prayers for us during this time. You all have been a wonderful support system for my husband and a "safe place" for him to vent. It is nice to have "family". I am home form the hospital now and hopefully on the way to recovery-I have a strong will and faith, this will not bring me down.

Ken,
I feel like such a dumbass. I've been so consumed with my own senseless wants and agenda, that I haven't taken the time to wish you and Dawn a speedy recovery. I can't imagine what you're going through, and just pray that you stay strong for Dawn, and that she is cured quickly.

Ron

Keep it up Ken and Dawn....I sent some help your way Brother! The least I could do....and wish I could do more!

Hey Dawn................remember that this Sick SOB loves you :D
I did, and I will get her to read up on all the post's later.... home health is here, and she is getting her am Vanco, and initial assessment... tried to get her to create a user name and password here... but she can't handle the seat time yet.

Thanks Mikey

Update:

Well so much for home health :hmpf: Were going to have to do this one of two way's...
Home health nurse came out.... start's the Vanco infusion , and paperwork this morning...and as I was updating the thread... the phone rings... it's the home health agency.
They ask for Dawn, so I give her the phone.... and the next minute the nurse on the other end of the phone starts to ask Dawn a series of odd questions starting out .... Mrs Liebich... are you learning?:dontknow: Dawn say's excuse me.... she againg responds "are you learning Mrs Liebich?".
Dawn then ask's the nurse on the phone, "I am not sure what you are asking of me, am I learning what?
this nurse then begin's to tell my wife how the agency is extremely busy, she has to be in New Port Richie today, and since Dawn is a nurse she can learn how to self administer her medications...and since I am a Paramedic, I can manage the Heparin flush, and administer the Vanco as well...and so on... and so on... finally telling her that she will not be out tonight, and that she will be out on Tuesday to do the dressing change... unbelievable!
so do we....

Climb up this agencies ass, for the sheer piss poor BS...right out of the gate...
or, suck it up, and I/we will do the best I can with one arm? Dawn can't change the dressing on the PICC (it's high on the inside of her arm by her armpit) because she can't use two hands....Dad is not a medical person...and does not like to look at it, as the PICC "looks painfull" to him..lol... So not much help with med admin. and aseptic sterile dressing changes.

not much fight left in us....

Dont give up Brother....wish I could be there to help. Just keep the faith man.

Oh and climb up the agencies ass, you better get what you pay for!

Glad to hear you're home!! I wish you both the very best in luck and may both of you be blessed with speedy recoveries! :)

Well looks like the dust is settling down around here.
I took the liberty of calling the nursing agency yesterday, shortly after the post update... never got a call back (thank God it was not urgent)
Finally got a call back (last night) from the nurse that was supposed to come out this morning. She was shocked that the whole thing had taken place like that, and was more than willing to come out and help. We denied, and told her that we were going to go ahead and do this on our own, and not bother anyone else for the assistance with medication administration.
We will have somone out for the dressing changes for her PICC line, until I have full use of my right arm.

She was very understanding, and we wish we would have had her as our first nurse.... such is life.

Regarding Dawn... she is getting around fairly well (with the use of her walker), and her pain seem's to be managed fairly well. The medication has given her a few bout's of nausea...but thank God it did not end up into a production. 6-8 weeks of medication administration, routine labwork, and prayers of a reduction in the infection, no fevers in the meantime, and no infection to the PICC line would be a God Sent Blessing that we can only pray for. She has a long road ahead of her.

I have been trying to get this arm to work, pulled it out of this sling a few times... but I swear it's going to dislocate.... got some play in it yet. I start PT tomorrow, and hope to be done with re-hab in 6 weeks.... light duty within a week:dontknow: ....whenever the screws seat (scar tissue formation around them)and the MD say's I can drive. Wish this thumb would wake up... damn thing is still numb.:dontknow:

Brat and the family today stopped by today.... it was great to see you all today. Thanks for the great dinner.... it's rather hard to breath at the moment, as seconds were in order. Please tell Julie the Lazagna was great!

Earl and I had the chance to knock a few back... which is great... cuz the last time I had the opportunity to tilt a beer was our last GTG :dontknow:
Cheers
Earl also dropped a check... from the members here.
Honestly, I was afraid to look at....till Earl "let me have it".
While the feeling of guilt seemed to dominate my mind when he gave the check it to us... there was a certain peace knowing that we can "relax" a bit around here without the constant pressure of finances breathing down our neck.

Thanks everyone, I can only pray that I can return the favor someday.

Forever grateful

Ken & Dawn

BTW... I started this post this morning.... and after three power outages...finally got this done...LOL

Got to run.....disconnecting the MRs's from her IV.

Out'

Ken,
Steve has kept me up to date about what was going on with Dawn. We love you and our prayers are with you...

Glad to hear there's alittle light in the tunnel,as has been said before,if there's anything I can do to help, don't be afraid to call !!!

Hi everyone,
Well it's been a long day..( I started this post early in the day, and I am just getting to it now).
My 1st day at PT...felt great to get the arm moving.... painful...but no comparison to back surgery.
I watched my surgery today...(I got the DVD) interesting... he did a great job!

Dawn is moving slowly, her pain is on the brink of managed, and not managed... but she is coping. The back spasms she get's are unreal...and when my hand is on the small of her back...I can feel the force of them, and watch them crawl up her back. Were trying to address it..... she is on Soma for it... but I believe she is getting tolerant.:dontknow:
Tried heating pad, ice, position, Soma, Tens Unit, massage, combination of them...minimal luck so far....anyone with any suggestions regarding good anti-spasmodics?...we are staying away from "Benzo's".
I hope we don't have a problem with the nursing agancy again. They called tonight... telling Dawn not to take her morning IV antibiotics. They have to pull labs to make sure her levels are WNL... so I ask... they are going to get the results back to us within an hour and a half right :dontknow:.
She was not sure, and said normal turn around time was 24 hours...:banghead:
I said Dawn's care will NOT roller coaster on her, and I need the results of those labs asap, so we can continue un-interrupted treatment and a maintained level of antiobiotics in her bloodstream. Vanco should be administered as consistently as possible. Were not about to give this infection an inch....So I'm being "anal" about it.
The nurse understood...so I hope it's good to go.... better be.
Other than that status quo.

Thanks everyone for the continued thought's and prayers.
The contributions are a blessing, and we owe it to you all for easing some of the pressure of finances.
This forum has a power that I've not seen before, or experienced on ANY other site.

Thanks everybody for making this place home...
