I was on holidays this past week and a neighbour where we were camping is looking for a dodge pickup. He wanted to measure the depth of the box with the tonneau cover down because he needs 24" clearance for his daughters wheelchair. I have a carpet bed liner so I peeled that back to get an accurate measurement. This is what I found under it. Think someone installed it for better traction? and was too lazy to install traction bars or what do you think the reason is? I haven't removed it yet but am planning on it.

1/2"x4'x4'6" solid steel

right to the scrap yard with that!

Could be. But adding that much weight is counter productive. Judging by the marks on it, my guess is it was installed for hauling something that needed to be on a flat surface. What that thing might be? No idea.

My thought exactly on the counter productive part. The marks you see is cardboard that was glued down for possible shipping or something...........who knows though could have been for hauling something too. Remove and take it to the scrap yard and buy traction bars with the money I will make from it

It was $10.50/100lbs. this weekend

Good iron I would not scrap it sell it to a machine shop or local welders

Hope it's not covering a large hole in your bed. It's additional weight that you don't need.
