I put Continental CrossContact’s on my 2004 RC about 2 months ago and have around 2500 miles on them the bump steer went away completely; they ride so much better than the Pirelli there is no comparison. Traction seems better also. My Pirelli’s were so worn out at 24000 miles any tire would have felt better but the bump steer going away made a believer out of me.

I still have the OEM Pirellis on my truck, so I didn't vote..... All I have is the opinions expressed here (on which) to proceed with the next tire purchase...

The biggest (perceived) problem with the Pirellis is with the presumption that they are responsible for our handling woes..... I've always been very liberal with my bumpsteer/handling complaints....

Sometime this month I'll be correcting the sway bar/tie rod geometry with Patrick's kind offer to do the work... At that point, I'll be able to determine just how much bumpsteer is attributed to geometry, thus making a more informed decision on which tire to use....

Thanks for all the input, this thread is a great idea.... So far, I'm leaning towards the Grabber UHPs or the Khumos.... I've used Khumos on my Z and they are a good tire for the money... I always factor wear + handling + price equally when choosing a tire.... Performance cars really use 'em up fast...

Good Morning to you all....

That poll looks kinda like a list from TireRack.
(no offense, Chase)

There are 26 tires available for our stock rims.
Of those, only 4 are W-rated (BFG, Pirelli, Yokohama & Continental). And the treadwear ratings are all 320 or lower.
We can toss out a few models (sand racer tires, off-road tires, and sub-V rated).
That leaves:
  1. BFG G-force KDA TW *
  2. Pirelli Scorpion P-zero *
  3. Yokahama Parada Spec-X *
  4. Continental ContiCrossContact UHP *
  5. Hankook Ventus ST
  6. Wanli S1098
  7. Maxxis MA-S2 Marauder II
  8. Nexen Rodian HP (aka Lexani Rodian HP),
  9. Nankang N990
  10. Cooper Zeon XST
  11. Nitto NT404
  12. Toyo Proxes
  13. Kumho Ecsta STX KL12
  14. General Grabber UHP
* = W-rated for speed.

(There's a new company called "SUNNY" that makes 305/40-22 tires. I haven't heard boo about them so they didn't make my list.)

V-rated tires usually have a better treadwear rating and aren't as 'soft' (in most cases).

An ultra high-performance tire on the street will handle like crap and feel very stiff.
On the track, however, they will be AWESOME.
A regular high-performance tire on the street will handle well and feel smooth while being fairly decent on the track.
If you're drag racing your SRT-10, stop reading this thread. :D

No offense taken Kevan. I didn't start the poll and I work in the wholesale department anyway...selling to dealers, not individuals. All I know is that I would not put below a W on my truck, the BFG's are probably the coolest lookin tire i've ever seen, never had a problem with the stock Pirelli's, Yokohamas' new Advan line rocks, and I've driven the Conti's and they are nice all around tires. You can't go wrong with any of the four IMO.

By the way....the OE Pirelli is the only one of the 4 W-rated that is M+S rated...not that many of us drive these in winter conditions anyway.

Actually the list is from Tirerack and Discount tire...:girl:

I don't need tires yet but if I did it would be BFG I like the way they look and I had a set on a 2002 camaro ss and loved them best tire ever .

I am running the BFG KDW 2s On my truck, About 15,000 mi. And i think they are great. Also have them on the wifes 02 GTI 225/40 ZR 18

Also of note:
There are TWO different Pirelli Scorpion P-Zeros!
One has a treadwear of 320AA; the other is 420AA.

Our trucks came with the 320AA version.

I currently have the Pirelli's on my truck. But I am going with the Grabbers for the next set. As far as the stock rubber goes. For me it provides good dry traction and does have some bumpsteer, but as soon as it hits water, time to hold on tight. I will say it did handle better in the snow than I expected.

Just got the Khumo's and have 120 miles on them and there ride is excellent. Going threw the mountains today on my way back to SD nothing to exciting ( 80 to 95 mph )but the sidewall seams a little spongy but I have not driven the truck in several months so it might just be me. I will give more info when I have some time on them. ohhh yea!!! The traction seams great but only stood on it once :D :D :D

Hey Keven, I think the VR rated tires Have a little more flex in the side walls. That is probably why our trucks came with the ZR.:dontknow:

I'll go for the BF Goodrich g-Force next time to reduce spun weight. On my last truck (Hemi), I didn't check when I replaced my OEM tires (Goodyear), wound up with a tire 6 pounds (larger than stock Toyo Proxes) heavier than the OEM, and saw consistent slower times in the quarter.

I can't prove it with hard data but it sure seems that reducing spun weight 4-7 pounds per wheel makes a difference.

Good info Oldguy , Thanks.

I have the Nitto's on my truck, have put about 5000 mi. on them, really pleased. Wet and Dry traction were improved tremendously. They are a little noisy when cold, goes away in a mile or two. And they are available in our size. They look great.

Weights per tire (305/40-22) as listed in the poll for your consideration are:
Pirelli 43
Continental 43
Yokohama/both 47
BF Goodrich 41
Kuhmo 46
Cooper 52
General 43

and I added Toyo Proxes at 45

Reducing spun (tires, pulleys, flywheel) weight seems pretty important in the quarter.
