My burnout / drift vid

Pretty Good. I'm just waiting for my 3000.00 Tax refund so I can Waste the shit out of my tires too.

Well, in order for it to be considered drifting you need to be traveling in a line, while the vehicle is pointed at an angle to that line (preferably 20 degrees or more).

Hint: GAS PEDAL. Lots and lots of gas pedal.
What you don't want is for the rear tires to grab very well.
Use the front end/steering to 'whip out' the back end, then stay on the gas. It's a fine line between No Grip and Grips Too Much. You have to find that line and walk it.

I learned how to drift on the snowy roads of Colorado more than 20 years ago. We didn't call it drifting though; we just called it "fun as hell". The road to our house was a perfect place for me to practice: Over the RR tracks, then a 90 deg. left (whip the back end out)...travel almost perpendicular to the road for about 100 yds. then let the car come back to center while stepping on the gas at a certain point, and the tail end would whip around to the other side...getting ready for the 90 deg. right turn. The back end stays out to the side as I travel up the slight incline to the intersection. When I got there, I was usually facing the direction of the intersecting road. :D
I've actually drifted a 20-pass. van up the road to the hotel where I worked. I didn't get fired, but I did get plenty of tip money from the guests. Many of them wanted to do it again.
So we did. :)

The other thing you want is SPACE. Lots and lots of space. That parking lot you guys were in was a prime practice spot. A closed track is even better.
It's good to practice on wet or snowy (not icy) pavement. Take that practice to the dry roads and you'll be a pro in no time!

Wow. You just pinched off a load in his cheerios. . . :dontknow:

I thought it was a kickass video TREKER. Everyone that has the means should take and post such videos.

Nah.
He asked for tips.
I provided tips, and some personal experiences to back those up.

His driving in the video is fine. With some practice, it'll be even better.

I appreciate the comments Kevan. Being 100% honest, that was my first ever attempt at doing that. A few minutes before that vid, I actually stalled after I spun around. I got the hang of it better after that. But you are right, you need to keep the wheels spinning it seems. Once they grab, it straightens you out and fun is over. Too much gas and turning the wheel sends you all the way around.

Figure eights seem to give you best way to train on it in a smaller area.

I wish I could have had enough hands to shift, steer and record. All 5 of us pulling out of that parking lot like a bunch of asses was hands down the best!

Sweet vid brother! sometimes if you take a sharp turn then floor it
you can do some pretty big doughnuts.. just make sure noone is around you
like in the video as you can spin out of control  ;)

I just cant wait to have the chance to do that again. We were all going nuts l:burnout: eaving that place. It was so funny too. :burnout: Everywhere I turned,:burnout: an SRT was smiking tires :burnout: and spinning around. :burnout:

I am still smiling from that day. Lets do it again soon!!!! Like tomorrow!!!!:D

Orchard Beach Park - Bronx NY believe it or not!!! I almost didnt and I live here!!!!

No light poles, just open fairly new paved road. I had a blast.

My parents live in Huntersville NC. I will be coming down into Charlotte in the next few weeks for a long weekend. I am flying so no rig, but would like to meet up with some of you guys for a few beers if I can.

Looks like fun to me!!

I can always use drifting practice when you guys wanna toss me the keys to YOUR RC!:D :burnout: :D

I just got off the phone with a buddy of mine in ATL who owns an SRT8 "ManWagon" (Magnum). :) He's talked a bunch with Chris Cook, a professional driver and instructor, and got some video of him at Road Atlanta recently:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uzd0vVSxQwA
Chris drives the green Viper (2:11 thru 2:31 in the video).

Listen to how he 'rides' and 'taps' the throttle and see what the car does in response to his moves.
He's probably in 2nd or 3rd gear throughout that entire clip. Lots and LOTS of throttle.

Here's a link to Chris' site:
http://www.shiftintogear.com
(check out the videos too)
He offers a variety of driving programs. If you really like doing this type of driving, a course would be a good idea.

In cars, they're using the e-brake at the apex of the turn to get the ass end of the car to start coming out. With our trucks- and so little weight back there- the e-brake could be used, but probably isn't necessary. A little bit of throttle and that thing will just float away. :)

Very cool vid and wow what a huge parking lot!!!!!! Keep your drifting practice to that lot and nobody will take out a curb and their truck.

Looks like it was a blast!!! Thanks for posting!

Thanks Patrick,

It was fun. It was only a matter of time with that amount of open asphalt and six viper trucks.:D:burnout:
