My new electric fan setup

I installed my new fans with a setup I did myself...mostly. I made a template out of cardboard and worked out the fan placement. Then I had a friend cut it out of aluminum. I test fitted it to the shroud and cut out the plastic where is would be in the way. I mounted the fans and relays to the aluminum and then mounted the aluminum to the original shroud. I used one of the brackets that hold the AC lines out of the way and was able to mount the stock overflow tank as well. I have it wired to a thermostat and put a manual override switch in too.

It works awesome!!! I had the truck running and turned the fans on at 170degrees and forgot to turn them back off until I noticed the temp at 140 Normally I will just let the thermostat turn them on and off.

It was actually pretty easy and not too expensive either. Fans under $100 each, couple relays for $10 each and the sheet of aluminum was like $70.

I just need to figure out how to get the check engine light to stay off from the stock fan not being plugged in.

I think it will actually be pretty easy. When my windsheild washer tank was removed all they did was put a piece of wire from one terminal to the next on the connector where it plugged in and that was it.

Also may wanna ask Tony. I know he was coming out with a twin fan set up also so he might have had a resolve to that that is better.

I believe Jfire is correct because it just will loop the system and trick it into thinkin its working.

Im gonna try that tomorrow, i have the same problem with check engine light. I was gonna have Torrie turn it off, heard he could, when I got it remote dyno tuned.

hey man, you need some vents in that thing, going down the road the shroud will actually hold in heat, not enough will transfer thru the fans, unless they are on
as the heat comes thru the radiator it will be held there traveling down the road, thus creating more heat, now when the fans are on , it will work fine, but unless they are running you are defeating the purpose of what you are trying to achieve, shoot me a pm an I'll tell ya how to fix it boss

Be careful doing this. I can't say for sure that you will have issues, but I sure as shit wouldn't try it without studying the wiring schematics.

It could be a easy way to fry the ECU.

That will be no-bueno. At the very least, you need to measure the resistance of the stock fan solenoid, then put a resistor across the terminals of roughly the same value. I don't think it will be that simple however, since it is a pulse-width-modulated solenoid, and not a simple on/off solenoid.

Thanks!! They are 14" Spal fans. Each one is 1720 cfm. Seems to work great so far.

I guess what I am gonna do is just wait till I get it tuned and have Torrie make it not trip the CEL. Hopefully that will work cuz I hate seeing that light on.
