need help w/ overspray

When i bought my work truck, i noticed it had some paint spray on the truck. it is a black truck and you cant see it unless you get close, but there are white/silver dots all over the truck. like it sat for a weekend in the garage and got dust on it, only on the horizontal areas.

Dont know why, but it bothers me. The overspray is on top of the clear coat, so all i need to do is remove the overspray. But everything that will do that will also swirl the clearcoat, or it is not strong enough to remove the dots. 2000 grit wet sand is the only thing that will remove them easily, but i am left with BAD swirlmarks. i tried a polishing compound to remove the dots, and it worked, but it took almost a halfhour just to do a very small spot, like a 4inch square.

does anyone know the easiest way to do this. is there a poilishing compound that is strong enopugh to take care of the overspray without too much damage to the clear coat. or a good wax/polish to easily take care of the swirls so i can just get rid of the dots easily with a good wetsand?

This....then use a DA polisher with some meguires ulitmate polish. Will make it look like black glass. :rock:

is clay bar abrassive??? I have Tried Turtle Wax polish, it has little granuels in it, like a liquid sand paper. it took 30 min to get 1 little area free ofthe overspray. at that rate it would take 4 solid days to rid the whole truck...

I have never used the clay bar stuff. will it take those off, and how does it get applied??? i used an electric buffer with the turtle wax too.

And falcon, i was planning on ueing the Maguires Gold as a finish, to take care of the little inperfections left by the polishers.

Yesterday i tried
1. wet sand
2. Turtle Wax polish
3. Maguires Wax


i did this in the roof where you cant see last night. i am going out to check it.


do they sell a more abrasive substitute for the polish???

You can also try meguiars ultimate compound. It is a fine cut and is more abrasive than the polish. I have used it to take scratches out of the paint on my offroad Hemi. Did a great job with it. Should be able to handle a little bit of overspray.

i removed the compounds i put on last night. i put the polish on one side of the roof and miguires gold series wax on the other side. i put them ontop of where i have alredy removed the overspray with 2000 grit wetsand.

the wax filledmost of them in but can still see them through it in direct sunlight, the TW polishing compound just pretty much looked like shit.

I just went and got some more wax for the 10, and was looking at the different polishing compounds at the store. saw the maguires brand polish/scratch remover. i will give that a shot.

i am thinking the easiest way will be to wetsand the whole truck, then just find a polish/wax that will fill in those scratches. maybe a good clay bar. i have never used clay though.

with the amount of hp you truck makes I really wouldnt worry about it, until you actually make some reall power and become a reall srt10 just keep pretending your a semi hemi

you can run by autozone and pick up some undercoating, it has white specs in it an all you have to do is coat the hole truck, that way no more waxing

Like others have said Clay bar might take care of it... It's non-abrasive though there have been times that I have put some light scratches from not turning it enough. It would probably be a step or 2 before wet sanding IMO.

Meguiars makes 3 different clays... the white (consumer) brand, the "Mild" and "Aggressive" Professional Brand.. Order the "Aggressive" clay online. It will take it off.... don’t wet sand... it takes a buffer to remove wetsand marks. You will never be able to remove them by hand.

hahaha, i understood the clay bar part, which is the route im guna go. i have a 7'' buffer so thats not a problem, just wondering the easiest route to go that takes the least amount of step. hoping to do 3 or less steps.
