NEW Aluminum Drive Shaft installed

Looks great and no more carrier bearing bump. :rock: After cutting the carrier bearing support he tapped it with a hammer to knock it off and the engine started. He had to get a ladder to climb up in order to get to the ignition but opening the door and the engine died. :dontknow: Now while driving the alarm beeps and the lights come on, then beeps a little later and the lights go off. When they come on I can turn the switch to on and the lights go off, then when it beeps again and the lights come on I turn the switch back to off and the lights go off. :dontknow::dontknow::dontknow:

4:30 in the morning I awoke and finally figured out what happened. I have an aftermarket alarm with remote start and his hammer hit was just the right sound frequency to start the engine. For the other problem I guess the remote start and alarm has gone haywire. Will try to fix in the morning or disconnect altogether. Sure fun driving at night and the thing goes beep and lights go off and I turn the light switch to off and they come back on. Then go thru this every mile of so.

Sorry buddy, but that's a funny story. Sounds like you have your hands full with that truck.

Right, shoulda divided the thread. The drive shaft was replaced as the carrier bearing was worn out and every launch it would clunk just like a worn u-joint. VENOMOUS1 diagnosed it as the carrier bearing. I was waiting till I had the time to drive the 250 miles round trip for him to replace the shaft. Found a man that specializes in drive shafts near home so had him do the job instead.

Total cost for the shaft and the rear tranny bearing was $600. :rock: Did not have time to weigh it as I am moving to a new home and just did not have a day to waste. Of course the clunking noise has stopped and I feel the whole drive train seems much more solid but that might be in my head only. Seems to be perfectly balance but I have only had it up to 105 mph but would think that it would be at any speed.

Sad news, he will not build one for anyone and ship. Must have your yoke, u-joints, the whole thing to get the balance correct. The old fellow is 62 years old and come to find out he has built hundreds for the racing guys, including his one drag cars. He is a perfectionist and took the whole day to build mine but possibly could have had a bunch of interruptions. He lives 70 miles east of Dallas TX so if any of you Texas guy need the drive shaft fix I can whole heartedly recommend him. :rock: I might even pick ya up and entertain ya for the day (unpacking and sorting my 91 boxes of books) if the timing is right.
