hey guys im a long time lurker and have a few questions. im paying off my dakota and want to get a new truck when shes done. im stuck between a 03 and up cummins ( my family is big into diesels) or an srt 10. ive always loved the viper trucks and there are non around at all! lol and i always try to be different. so im curious on maintinance costs modding cost and all that on the srt 10 i know what the diesels cost so im curious on these. plus here in ny diesel prices are through the roof and gas is way cheaper. i have a bro that lives in ohio and i do tow quads but nothing heavier thenthat so keep that in mind. thanks and look forward to hear from yall

Do the 10! As for costs, how crazy u want to get is the driver on that. Leave it basically stock for a while, enjoy it, then make a plan & try to stick to it....

oil changes are more $ than normal but so are diesels. I think overall there about the same in the deptartment. Get the 10, i tow a quad as well:burnout:

lol thanks for the responses guys! what do you get mpg wise towing ur quad ontariobee? and what yall average on mpg. general maitinence doesnt worry me as much cause as said its like the diesels and i work part time at a parts store so im worried more about and main part these trucks may be know for throwing. hell my fathers 06 cummins just dropped number 2 injector and 800+ later he had it fixed and thats what im worried about. it wouldnt be drove in the winter as thats what my 4x4 dakota v8 is for

The RC's are pretty good on fuel . they have a tall 6th gear. about 18 MPG. downhill and with the wind!! lol but the quadcabs have an automatic and get about 8 mpg. same downhill with the wind! Pulling my 19 foot camper trailer, the mpg only changed about 2 mpg less!

hmm well i really wanted a quad cab as it gets anoying not having the room to carry people. believe u me i want the stick so bad but 4 seats is a little more important but if its that bad on gas a rc is what ill buy if i get one. is there any way to get the qc trucks up to say 14 or 15 mpg? and is 18mpg on the high way im guessing?

Buy a Prius if you have to ask.

omg your totally right! im going to go buy a new prius! thats it thank you so much!:banghead: i own a built 87 camaro that gets 8mpg and a lifted v8 dakota that gets 14.5 on a good day idc about awesome mpg i just want an average to compare with other things. its stupid ass comments like that that get people to hate forums like these. either help me or stfo of my thread thanks.

now for you guys who have urs supercharged how do ya like it? and did it add or take any mpg? i figured as long as you can manage to keep ur foot out of it itll add a touch but that might be impossible lol. and na i dont plan on doing any towing besides my quads. and if the occassion ever arised im surrounded by cummins diesels lol so id be good

RC, mods listed. 19.6 cruise control at 75mph. HWY 301 between Waldorf and DC... stop and go traffic. 11.8-12.1 mpg.

My opinion is extremely bias'd...

Get the 10, stand out and be different than the rest of the family

i towed 1800 miles with a small trailer when i moved from TX to NY i only lost about 3mpg i averaged 15mpg on that drive towing normally i get 18mpg highway on that trip so the quad cabs are not a huge difference either.

Asking questions about MPG on these trucks ! hahahaha. You have been treated very well !
In the past just about everyone would slam a person on that question.... It's funny how that has changed in the last year or so. I guess the gas prices and economy have hit at home for a lot A typical personality 10 owners.:D.
I have always believed that making an engine more efficient will improve MPG and power ( I'm not sure in the case of the 10's now):dontknow:. My QC was getting around 10.4 city and 14.4 highway until I bought the SCT tuner in the first group buy:mad:. Now I'm getting around 8.9 city and 12.2 highway without utilizing the funny factor of the truck.
I will have to partially agree with Brad and say get a Prius if MPG is a concern . That's sort of what I did,Well, I got my girlfriend to buy one:D (46.8 MPG is not to shabby). Now, for some reason I use the 10's fun factor more .
There is nothing cheap about operating and modifying the 10's. Some have dumped over 100K in these trucks on mods. Basic maintenance is not much higher on the 10's compared to most other vehicles. But, problem repairs can get expensive...
I also own a well kept excellent running Dakota 6cyl 5 speed work truck that gets a whooooping 14 MPG city..... GO FIGURE ! The MPG is not much different :dontknow:.

PS: If I find a Blue with white stripes that meet my criteria ,,, I will buy it :):rock:

im not that worried about mpg cause i dont drive a hell of a lot less i go to ohio which i save up for anyways. mu dakota gest 14 on a good day averages 12.5 so im not worried much. i was just simply asking mpg. and yes the price of gas is hurting everyone so its a pretty standered question to ask anyone. im deff leaning the 10 right now unless diesel takes a huge dive which i doubt will happen and now im kinda leaning a rc cause i want the 6 speed bad.
