New Exhaust Manifolds! (Jet-Hot content)

I've had some 5-6 different exhaust parts done by JetHot over the years...price doesn't vary that much.

Any idea on how much of a difference this makes with under hood temps? I'm giving this an honest thought as it seems the HP per $ gain for headers isn't much. I've got the catless mids on the way and already have the Magnaflow cat back on in addition to the Stage II PCM and intake. Maybe I'll get more outta the intake by coating the Factory Headers thus cooling the engine bay? 50% less heat transfer is quite a bit!!

I did a quick drive yesterday (nothing fierce) and noticed a DRAMATIC decrease in under-hood temp when I got back home. I'll throw the laser temp gun on the headers today and find out how far down from 650F the Jet-Hot brings the headers. I'll run a similar check when it gets above 50F here. LOL

I don't have any dyno numbers. Sorry. Simple deduction though would suggest a HP increase as lower air temps equals more HP.

In regards to doing aftermarket headers:
I'd say HELL YES! It'd be nice if you could find an uncoated stainless steel set to send (most are ceramic coated).

I would guess that long tube headers would be about the same price as the stockers I had done. Give the folks at Jet-Hot a call. They're very nice and very knowledgeable. I'm sure they can answer all your questions.

Just got back from running a few quick errands. No harsh driving; no racing Mustangs; just a quick 40-minute jaunt under cold, gray skies.

Outside Temp: 16F
Exhaust Manifold Temp: 322F

Now, the temp outdoors might have a little to do with the cooler exhaust temp, but....it's WAY down from the original 600F-650F.
Enough to make me VERY happy about my purchase. :)

Very noice Kevan. Thanks for the heads up on Jet Hot, just another thing to badger the wife about for the truck.

If anyone wants/needs a set of factory manifolds to send off and get them coated so they minimize downtime, I have set complete with all the factory bolts, plug wire shields etc...

Ditto ;)

Anyone try getting the stock manifolds ported? Sounds like it would be cheaper to port/coat than buying headers altogether. The only downside is the stockers are heavy cast iron.

I don't really think getting them ported would be of any value other than gasket matching the indiviual tubes, if they need it. To open them up you'd have to have them extrude honed and now you're probably getting close to the cost of headers and as you pointed out, the weight reduction alone has to be worth something...

I called about getting the stock manifolds extrude honed. Ouch. About $1200.

While the stock exhaust is cast iron, it's not all that heavy; only 24 lbs. per side. Headers would come close to 20 lbs. per side. You'll maybe save 10 lbs. or so by going with headers.

I picked up a spare set of stockers so I could drive around while the originals were being coated. It took Jet-Hot about a week after the boxes had arrived at their place.
- Shipped from my door: Jan. 24th.
- Returned to my door: Feb. 5th.

NOTE: You will need extra sets of gaskets for each time you swap out the manifolds. Talk to Dragon for the uber-deal.
Also, make sure to remove the negative battery cable!!!!! When the gaskets come off, they fall apart like a deck of aluminium cards. On the driver's side, they can (and probably will) fall and connect with the starter terminal. It's a light show you don't want to see.
