Hope you guys could shed some light on this.

For a couple of days now I've been hearing a clack from the old girl. When your standing outside the noise seems to be coming from around were the mids are located. The best I could describe the noise is a clack (kinda like when the clutch of the a/c engages, or after you shut of the truck after running on a hot day and you hear the metal expanding or contracting). I checked underneath the hood at first I thought the noise was coming from the water pump, but then the noise seemed to come from the driver side cyclinder head area. The noise is not constant it happens about every 25-30 seconds and it becomes less noticable after the engine temp passes 160. Mods: stage II flash, 172 degree t stat, electric fan, and cat-back Magnaflow. I did also change the oil about the same time the started noticing the noise Royal Purple. Before I always used Mobile 1.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To find where the noise s coming from, use a short length of hose (heater hose, garden hose, etc) put one end to your ear and move the other one around until you isolate the noise. Works like a mechanic's stethoscope...I know it sounds hinky, but it works GREAT!

Its your lower pully belt. Gotta get her up on a jackstand and check the torque. I think it should be like 120 lbs or so. Some folks were finger loose.

Thanks Patrick I'll check it out.

I took the truck to the dealer today and they figured out what was making the popping noise to make sure the engine was healthy before I installed the supercharger. It was the driver side exhaust manifold heat shield. One of the welds came loose and it also had one of the bolts in the rear loose. The heat sheild was warped also from the expansion and contraction of the heat.

Supercharger here we come!:D
