Hey guys, im trying to get this fixed, but i dont know what is causing it, which is why its hard to know what to search for on the forum, so im just going to describe it and see what you guys have for me. when the truck is running and im in neutral, i hear a tapping sound coming from underneath, that stops when i push down the clutch...what is it?!?! if its the cable (which is what i think it is) how do i tighten it? Thanks for your help!

Our trucks have hydraulic actuated clutches, no cables. How many miles are on your truck?

That's more than likely your problem. Chrysler put the gear oil in the transmission to quiet it.

so nothing is wrong then, but to get rid of the noise, i should refill with gear oil...? is that what all you guys do?

Some use atf. I use the factory oil and then add 2 bottles of friction modifier to help shift better. I can't say 100% that's your noise but that's what it sounds like to me.

I've never changed mine from the factory fill. I just hit 30,000km.

Mine got a lot noisier after my fluid change to Redline D4 Synthetic ATF, but I was told ahead of time it would. TREMEC recommends synthetic ATF in their service manual for the T6, Chrysler uses gear oil for noise purposes only.......

well it sounds like i will give that a shot, i appreciate the help...would be great if someone that may have experienced the same thing would chime in also

Somehow missed that!! Lol gotcha!! Thanks!!!

Yes the noise you hear is the input shaft of your tranny. ATF is recommended but as said gear oil makes it quieter.

The best way is to remove the serpentine belt, then remove the lower crank pulley. Then try to tighten the bolt that holds the dampner on. If it moves, continue tightening until it stops moving . Then remove bolt and apply blue loc-tite to the threads of the bolt and torque. I forget torque value. Reinstall lower pulley and the serpentine belt
