Oil Filter Comparison

Holy shit is oil pricey. Small town no RP so went with Mobil. $127 for oil filter pan and wrench

The RP would have been even more. Heh-heh
 
I thought RP was a little cheaper. Oh well going to give it a go in a few. Lunch first
 
A reliable local engine builder recommends the K&N oil filter, thats what I use on most of my vehicles.

Too late for this one. Went with the Mobil. Oil is draining, going to let her drain a while although it is at a very slow trickle after a minute or so. Do I really need to wait 20 minutes?? I got her in a position to get the filter, tight but I can get her. Feeling good yes I am
 
used the factory oem filter & mobil 1 0w40 since it was new - no issues @ all. :)

the issue here isn't what filter to use, but to change your oil regularly every 3k miles.:)

Finished my first oil change on my own. Wasnt too bad at all. I made one error and I hope its no biggy or I am doing it again. The guy gave me a case of Mobil 1 extended mileage synthetic. Not straight 10W-30. Anyone see any problems there? Also on the first spin I noticed the oil temp came up a lot faster, not too hot just got there much faster than normal but its also 80 something today
 
Quick question for ya Demon 8. Did you warm up the truck before you pulled the drain plug? Oil temp 160-200 range. If you did not warm it up that is probably why it was draining slow. Another thing I have done is take off the filler cap on valve cover. It releases the suction taking place while the oil is draining.
 
Thanks to Stink and Scott for guiding me through what is probably simple to most of you. For me it was a big step, now I can save some coin in the future. Wonder who will take the oil? Can I take it to Autozone or someplace like that?

You are all good. Just some of the little things that can help out. Not sure if autozone can take your old oil. Never done that before. I have taken mine to any oil change shop/mechanic shop to drop it off. Usually they don't charge you a disposale fee. But I knew the guys at the shop too. The easiest place for me is the dump. There is one just outside the city limits. 5 min from my house and the dumps have buckets/totes to put the old oil in.

Call advance or autozone and ask them, advance auto here in town takes used oil.
 
I use the black filter with no problems. Ramps are a bitch with the clutch IMO.....you have to back up on em. I just jack the truck up and slide in a jackstand. Easy and safe.

Glad you got it done Demon. Feels good to do it yourself.

I changed my oil filter out from the mobil-1 to the black mopar one and I still get the start up whine. I'm gonna try the by pass valve update, it's under warranty though, so not sure if I need to consult the dealership first or not.
 
Make sure that the round ring gasket from the old oil filter is not stuck on the block. Just look at the oil filter when you remove it and make sure that it is still on the filter. If not, you need to reach up and remove it from the oil filter mounting pad on the engine. If two gaskets are on there, it will blow out when you start the motor and spray oil everywhere. Ask me how I know.....
