OK getting REAL ready to do my build. Opinions please!

Yo 505, what do I call you?

Your in NM right? Your not all that far from me. I may hit you up for some tuning with the VEC3.

On the camshaft. Exactly what cam do you have, and where did you get it? Cams for these things are not spoken of very often, so finding a good "tried and true" fi cam is HARD to do IMO.

On the clutch, you truly believe the McLeod clutch is worth the $$$? I am seriously considering it.

Rockers. What rockers are there? Are they seriously worth the $$$, remember I am going for bang for the buck here! If they are only gonna help me with 15 hp and they cost $500, I'm out. So again, are they worth it?

Heads....Put yourself in my shoes(basically stock ci forged engine with only a paxton). EXACTLY, what would you have done to my heads if you were building my truck?? Your definately a been there done that guy, so I really am listening to your opinion here.

Fuel pumps. I dont really want something someone else has built and now sells(justin), but I will consider. How much is this setup? I would rather just get a stronger pump and install it. I dont understand when you say "setup" what is involved besides just changing the pump? could you explain?

Intercooler. Who is Justin, and where does he get the intercooler? I want to get it as direct from the place that builds it as I can. I am a do-it-yourselfer BIGTIME, so I want everything as cheap as possible. I have a business license, and can generally get hooked up with the manufacturers, unless they require a buy-in. Thanks man, I sincerely appreciate your responses.

Robert
yes i am in nm....the mcleod clutch is the only one proven to with stand this kind of hp in these trucks!!!!!...and remember they are rebuildable with 2 day turn around for 400 buck =s so it will be the last clutch you ever buy and ill be able to save you close to a 1000 dollars vs buyin a brand new one ...but the one you get will be rebuilt so it is brand new....!!!!! i am by no means a tuner . but will help with whatever i can and yeah justin is jmbperformance the one that built my truck a flippen genius when it comes to these trucks!!!!!!! where are you at maybe i can deliver the clutch to you remember the stock tranny is not gonna last either!!!!

Man Im all mixed up. I thought you were JMB. Im over in Ft. Worth, TX. I just got done looking at the JMB website. I wonder if I could sell the entire paxton kit, and just buy a D2 Procharger unit, then see if JMB will sell me just the bracket for the blower. I could handle it from there. With the procharger I wouldnt have to worry about running out of air. His prices are good, but I can save a ton o $$$ doing everything myself. Thanks

Yea I see that. My truck has been to his shop before. When Chris Sanders had it, he got all mad at X-Metal and he took it to JMB for tuning or something.

OK this is on my personal truck, so I will only cut certain corners. I need opinons on exactly what parts I need. My truck is an 06 model. I have the engine out ready to tear down. The block is fine, just has minor blow-by. I have a paxton going back on the truck along with building a forged motor. I will try the smaller pully to get as much boost as the paxton will make. I am staying stock or close to stock ci. I would like to put a cam in to compliment the blower. I am running a paxton here, so the heads probably need to stay stock, correct? My performce parts are in my sig. I want BANG FOR THE BUCK! So I will spend extra if it is worth it, but otherwise I want to go the least expensive route. I will be calling Stinker, and prob getting everything through him, but I want everyones opinion here. The parts I will be needing in the next 2 weeks are:

1. Forged Pistons, which ones, what rings, what compression?

2. Forged Rods, unless my factory rods will support 800-1000HP.

3. Forged Crank, unless the factory crank will support the power.

4. Camshaft. I know its gay, but I want it lumpy as hell at the cost of a few hp. I doubt a cam costs power though, so which cam do I go with? Of course I want more power. Should I just call up Comp Cams and trust them to grind me a good one?

5. Clutch? What clutch do I go with? I have a Centerforce now that doesnt slip too bad, but is pretty sloppy with my old 640WHP. I want a GOOD tight jank when I drop the pedal/shift gears. JMB has the monster $1600 job?

6. Aluminum flywheel, or stay with factory?

7. Rocker arms, or stay with stock?

8. Mild head porting, or leave them alone right?

9. Larger injectors. I am ditching the paxton split second box. I have a VEC3, so I want to get bigger injectors, and tune it accordingly.

10. Tank fuel pump. Stock or get something stronger.

11. Throttle body. Stock or go bigger?

12. Intercooler. I am ditching the factory paxton water to air, & doing something like scrambler1 had built. I may even still buy his stuff if he wants to sell it. If not where do I get a bigass air-to-air intercooler.

*Question while I am at it. Scrambler and others have used much larger intake tubing with their paxtons from the blower to the intake. My thought is to try and keep the same size diameter plumbing between the blower and the intake. Thats the way paxton did it, is there really a reason to run larger intake tubes with the risk of lowering the boost? What do you guys think?

OK please you educated "been-there-done-that" guys, help me out. I just need opinions. Thanks in advance. Robert
1. JE, or wiseco, stay around oem compression or a couple points less in case you decide to change things later on, such as turbos, n/a, or procharger, or selling outright.
2.forged rods wil not support much, they are compressed powder rods, K1 makes really the easiest and simplest solution, plus are good for about 1200hp
3.the oem crank will support it, but i did find that mine after 7000 miles was bent 20 thousands, and i got three others that are also crooked, thats why we are going billet in eddies engine, we are having it done local.
4.camshaft needs to be a custom grind, and you can only get so much "bumpity bump' with a blower cam, you need a certain grind to work with blowers to control exhaust flow
5. I am selling spec, they have a full face stage three good for 950 ft lbs trq, but the mcleod is a killer way to go, upgrade with vipre hydraulics and your good to go.
6.stay with oem factory flywheel
7.harland, sharp, rocker arms will add hp, not sure how much , but will free up the valve train, on oem covers they have to be modified for them to work tho
8.have the heads ported, new valve springs, new valves, and hardened push rods. springs and push rods a must.
9.ditch the split second, stay with the vec its fine, go with 65lb or 75 lb injectors.
10.right now justins dual intank set up, or you can go to a custom big single, or a dual where one works and the other kicks in on boost.
11.Wait for cherry performance to finish the dual bore throttle body
12. go to a 1200hp intercooler, even a chiller for the intake temps.

stay with the normal size tubing the paxton only pushes so much air, dont make things too large

hey stink. Thanks for all the great info. I am still wondering though....(and I know this is a gay question), but would you guess the camshaft I have custom ground be more lumpy than the factory cam at all? If so, guess how rough will be be on a scale from 1 to 10?(I'd say factory idle has a 4 on the 1 to 10 scale).

On the rods, are the K1's something else besides forged?

I'm gonna chance the stock crank.

On clutch, when chris sanders had the truck X-Metal was supposed to have put the upgraded hydrolics already, but how can I be sure? Is there a way to tell just by looking? Which clutch would you personally go with? and how much is the retail price on the spec? I know the owner of spec personally(although I havent spoke with him in 5 years). I bought his personal 91 5.0 LX Mustang from him, so he may be able to hook me up.

What are the cheapest rockers? approx. how much are they?

Can you get my heads ported/valves/etc? I would probably only trust you on this one. Also how long will this take?

Where do I get the intercooler, or more specifically, what company makes the one I need?

Thanks Stink. I really do appreciate your time, I promise were gonna do some business.

it would be rougher, on that scale? maybe 7?
the K1 rods are forged rods
a billet crank is about $3500
harlands are about $625
I'll check on the intercooler , and the head porting and how long it would take.

Beware stink. I have your phone#. If you see an 817 # calling, watch out it prob me. Thanks
