Any one know of a good place to take my 2006 SRT-10 to have turbos, retune and a 6 speed manual trans installed around Dallas,Tx:dontknow:
 
from what I understand ART is under new managment, you might give them a shout, supposed to be moving there shop soon to the strip

you are correct i'm still waiting for them to have the time to get my truck back in down there

talked to the new owners , they sound pretty cool, sounds like they may turn the place the around a bit:rock:
 
I'm not wanting a big turbo just a little more than what I have now. What can I get away with without blowing engine?

no turbos , if you dotn want to do engine work, best stay away from those, others will def dissagree, but eh, you will blow with a turbo and oem internals,it will happen.
 
most any of your superchargers, paxton or roe you should be fine, some are running upwards of 7-8 psi and doing well, its the different combustion pressures the turbos deal with , that the oem ring lands cant substain.

and too even with SC "eventually" you will need to upgrade, but as long as you keep it at low psi and dont go hunting, for the hp, you will live a long time .

turbos are cool and make jsut tons of hp and with the right tuning on an oem engine may live, but with the small ring lands the oem pistons have , its honestly jsut a crap shoot.

go with a paxtn or a roe and you'll be tons happier
 
I have rebuilt several engines, mostly chevy 350's but I'm not understanding what the problem is with the ring lands. You would think this engine would be built super strong from the factory.

you would think , but not the case, I thinkk prof has a pic of the oem pistons here somewhere, but the top ringland is very close to the top of the piston, more than a normal piston should be, so under compression the ring land will eventually crack and thus fail, and if your lucky the piston dont come all the way apart and break the powder stamped rods and put a window in the block;)

maybe I am jsut super conservative on this matter, but then too I dotn like seeing folks spend money they dont have to either
 
I don't like wasting money. I would like to see 500 rwhp maybe a little more but nothing crazy. Just make it run like it should.

The rings are close to the top of the piston as they are on many modern engines that have to pass emissions. They are designed that way so unburned hydrocarbons can't hide in that area and yes, the ring IS up there on these engines. The high bleed down lifters were also used so these engines could pass emissions.

If the engine is under detonation, cast pistons can REALLY make a mess if they shatter and can break apart and jam in the cylinder like more than one S/C Viper engine I've repaired. I am seeing CLASSIC detonation damage and not structural piston failures.

The o.e.m. pistons seem okay but they just won't tolerate detonation for very long. I am at the same power level if not higher, than some of the guys running the street-style superchargers and I crack-check my piston tops from time to time with a 2-part spray. So far, so good, 60,000+ miles later; no cracks and no problems. I have never had my own engine out of the truck so it still has the o.e.m. pistons and rods; so no opportunity to zero-deck for even more detonation resistance either..

The guys that run the forged pistons IF the engine is under detonation, may start to see increased blow by or their catch cans start to fill more quickly as the ring lands crush and the rings can't move. So if the detonation isn't eliminated, the engines will just die a slower death.

When I finally pull mine for a rebuild, I will put in forged pistons.

Well cant the engine be beefer built for a more resonable price. How much do you guys think it would cost to have it built to the specs it should be at. Maybe stronger pistons, cam and better lifters. really I dont know the weak points in this engine and would like to know so when I have it done I'm not being sold something I dont need. Any improvements will be good but I dont want to replace a part that is good enough for something just because it is better.
 
forge it!!!!

go with pistons, rods. check crank for straightness. out of spec go forged. billet main caps, studs & bolts.

good push tubes
a set of Stinker oil cooler lines

etc.
