Poll: B&M or X-Metal Shifters

VTCOA Lads,

After doing countless searches on this forum and talking/emailing owners, it's quite a mixed bag on which shifter really offers the best upgrade over stock. Everyone has differences and tastes when it comes to how they row but being as though there are only 3 or 4 options for us regular cab owners, it's quite an important topic. Pleas vote and state why you prefer zed shifter over the other.

I currently have a X-Metal Gen-X in mine, never driven an SRT/10 so can't comment on stock. I just did a little research back when I came here and wanted them to install it during the RHD conversion. If it's as bad as some say, I'll be moving to the B&M camp. I'm not a fan of Boomers "professionalism" or therefore lack of it but I would never let that sway my decision, if it's a good product I'll say so regardless. Please state which shifter you have when you reply. The more input the better. ;)

Cheers,
Carlwalski

:)

The only people that could possibly even give an accurate answer is a person who has used both, which will be very few.

I've had stupendous luck with my stocker. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

That is true. However, during my searches I have come across numerous people have have stated they had "X" but went to "X" for "X" reasons. Also, people do drive/test other peoples trucks on get togethers etc. If they have only tried one, let others know what they think of them. You do make a very valid point though. ;)

even third gear Jimi?;) ;) :D :D :p

I had happy-feet that day (Plus low BAC). The shifter did what it was supposed to do! :p  :D :D :D :D

Stock vs: Gen X

GEN X!!!!! without a doubt

I've heard the difference is night and day between the stock and aftermarket shifters. Both B&M & X-Metal are supposedly (I'd have to agree) better than the stock porridge spoon. Shorter throws, more precise pattern, just better all round. Different strokes for different folks I guess, well, for this topic, different throws for different bros LOL......

the x -metal is good, and the band m is jsut as good, the only difference is one is actually a base from another shifter, and the band m is real, the gen x alot dont like because you use a twisting motion to go int o the next gear, and some just cant get used to it.

I have used all the models, and the B@M resides in mine, not because of anything else, jsut because I like it tons better, and dont have to worry about it being perfectly centered;)

I'v used the stocker (of course), the X-metal gen IV, and the b&m. I love the b&m because it feels like a "firmer and more positive engagement" stocker. Like Stinker said, some cant get used to the "twisting motion" of the X-metal and I'm one of them.

If you use a ball you "kinda" get used to it, but I use a t handle and WOW!! it is very noticable:D plus you can buy two B@Ms for one x - brand

When you say twists to get into gear, how exactly do you mean? Is this due to how the springs are "loaded" if that's the correct wording or something entirely different? Or do you mean the shifter itself actually "moves" while you're moving it?

twist wrist to left move up twist right to go into first

twist left come down, twist right to go into second and so forth

and before I get bashed for being a hater;) no I dont sell them:p
its jsut an honest opinion, actually I can be backed up, I installed mine and before I got to the mopar nats it was out and gave it to one of the guys that went with us, and he actually loves it:D

yet:D

EH! Sounds complicated but I know it won't be that bad as actually doing it. Still, that sounds like a lot of "extra work" for an upgrade. I have the ball being a ball shifter guy so I know it won't be as bad as the T-Handle shifter. Guess for me, it will be when I get my hands on the truck to decide. To tell you the truth, I may have jumped the gun and am already leaning towards buying a B&M shifter with the 8" Hurst lever someone was talking about. Factory look, aftermarket performance. Will test the Gen-X out first though (obviously).

When I purchased my truck it already had the X-metal shifter in it. I'm not sure what generation it was :dontknow:. Last week, I installed the B&M shifter and I love it  Third is so much easier to find.
I didn't really like the twisting of the X-metal shifter.

i have the x-metal gen4 & it's light years better than the stocker & alot noisier........ the twisting you get isn't noticeable with the ball ontop the shifter & i've never busted a handle on mine like a few have with the b&m.... if you want one that's as nearly quiet as the stocker, b&m is your choice for sure.......

I tried the gen IV but did not like the twist and it seemed noiser than the B&M...other than that it shifted better than the stock but my favorate is the B&M I now have........

I have had Hurst (stock), Gen X and B&M. I took the Gen X out and sold it after several months of trying to like it. Put the B&M back in and happy as a queer in jail.:D :D

I have tried all three....i like the stocker best. I guess i finally learned how to shift!
