I'd love to go.
But even if I left now, I'd be late. :)

Take LOTS of pics. I'm curious as to how far down the truck is.
What about one those bigass tow trucks (the ones that tow buses and full-loaded semis)? I've seen those guys get some gnarly stuff out of the woods.

Now thats funny. LOL:D

How far is the drive:dontknow: give me this guy's contact info. I might be able to get some positive results

The only contact info I have is on the first post on this thread. It's a Craigslist ad with an email to contact. I am looking up the directions now.

i am in, just a hop, skip and a jump for me

The listing said "4 miles up on 74". I started at the OTHER end. :)
There are some serious twisties about 4 miles in.
I'm trying to get topo maps of the area. From the satellite, it looks.....rugged.

Oh, and if you can, get the GPS numbers! That'll help the rest of us see it.

EDIT-
Here's a pic of the area the truck is in:

He's not kidding about only a small wheelbase 4x4 being able to get in there. The heli-lift is sounding better and better. :p

(BTW- GoogleEarth rocks!)

Pics are still downloading so here is the story.

Went from the start of the 74 freeway to 20 miles in. We looked at every possible accident site on both sides of the road. 1 site at exactly 4.6 miles in was the most likely spot that this accident happened. I saw exhaust parts, driveline, wheels, dashes, roofs, etc etc all the way down the hill. Armed with a camera I decided to go down the mountain at least 1 mile down. It was like rock climbing in reverse to get down there. You couldn't see all the way down and the only way to really know was to try to climb down there. This decent was fruitless. All those parts were from some kind of import not a truck. Now I had to go rock climbing to get back up.

We did a second run up and down the 74 and went hiking in some other possible accident sites with no luck either.

Finally we went to the Ironwood Club and talked with the head of security. He said that he is aware of all accidents in the area regarding the 74 freeway. He told me there was an accident involving a S.U.V. or truck about a week and a half ago and when help arrived to recue that individual that went over the individual was nowhere to be found. We asked him if there was a logging road that led to the 74 freeway. He said yes and no. He told us that if the person that went over the edge on the 74 freeway the only way was to go to the big horn club.

We went to the big horn club and talked with the head of security as well. He was completely unaware of any accident in the last 2 weeks and would only give us permission to access the logging road if the director of operations approved it. I have his number and will call monday morning.

Fustrated and feeling like we were on a long goose chase we decided to go to the police department and ask if there was any record of an accident involving a truck in the last month on the 74 freeway. The police ran a check and returned no results.

This is starting to look like a prank and not legit but will follow up more on Monday.

pics should be ready shortly

I know the area well, run that road out to Palm Springs a lot on the bike. On the way back you should have just come all the way to Idyllwild and then gone down the 243 to Banning or come all the way across to Hemet and then gone up the 215. Idyllwild is the coolest, still trying to figure out how to move up there.

Update:

I spoke with officer Rice of CHP Indio division. He is currently investigating this claim of the SRT10 incident. He will call me back with further details if any incident like this exists. He also informed me that we will need power of attorney from the owner to airlift the truck out. This power of attorney will need to be presented to him first before any further action is taken.

I have already spoken to the Palm Desert Sheriffs Station last night. They did an accident verification check that yielded no results. They said that I should check with the Indio Highway Patrol as its their area to patrol.

I have submitted another email to the owner with all my efforts and things that I would need from him to start the recovery process. I even supplied him with photos of the accident sites that I was able to find. I let him know that I have spoken with the heads of security to both the Big Horn and Ironwood Country Clubs. I let him know that we need some sort of proof that his truck is actually out there before they give us clearance to the old logging road that runs through their properties for a visual. I also told him that we will need power of attorney for the police department to OK us to salvage his truck via helicopter.

I have done everything humanly possible to make this happen. Now it is in the owners hands. Let see if he is legit. I will be REALLY upset if this is some sort of prank. If it is a prank I wonder what could be done to this individual.

Just got a phone call from Officer Rice. He did an investigation dating back from Feb1,2007 to present. There is no record of this accident. His direct number is (760) 772-8911.

This ad on craigslist looks like its a fraud.

We tried.

Do you think its possible it could have happened before Feb 1 2007?

If he was injured to the point of almost losing his life, perhaps it took a few months for him to recuperate enough to post the ad and deal with the insurance.Just a thought.:dontknow:  :)

BTW, Thanks for all the work you did.We have some great determined forces on this site.

Its possible. Youcould call officer rice and ask him to please check before Feb 1, 2007. I don't want to feel like I'm bugging him but if you called then that would be better and would show him there are several interested parties involved. The number is listed in my above post.

Ok we just got an email from the guy so here it hat he said:

Sorry i thought i wrote you back, i made a generic reply statement, and copied and pasted it to whoever wrote me back, that truck was gone 5 hours after i posted it on craigslist, this guy who lives in lancaster flew his copter from there to thermal, and basically got the truck, and gave me 9000$ cash so i couldn't refuse, if you are intrested though, there are many wrecked vehicles around highway 74 in the mountains, i know of a early 00 model corvette being up there, also a dodge charger, a couple of vans, a old old dodge power wagon, and if my memory serves me correct alot of motorcycles, there was a gentlemen who notified me of a way to salvage those vehicles, anyway thanks for your e-mail i'm sorry you didn't get mine earlier
