Product review: EZLIFT

Kevan, It took me about a 45min. to an hour to install mine but I was being very careful and precautious not to scratch anything in the process since I was working alone. I had taped towels all over the back of the truck and bumper etc. I did not have to remove the hinge either. I had enough room to just lift up on the free end and push the stationary end into place. You kinda haveta distort the whole that the rod is inserted into. You'll love it once it's installed.

"D", it took me about a week to stop slammin' the tailgate too. Funny how sometimes you can do a mod and it takes awhile to compute.

hee hee... Can't wait to get mine. Hopefully it wont give me fits.

People around here are already amazed (aside from the mess of speakers in the bed) about how easily the tonneau lifts up. Neat mod, thanks again for bringing it back up : )

Are there any more cool mods I may have missed??

Looking at your sig pic...get rid of the wiper blades. Go to Lowes or Home depot and get the black rubber stoppers that fit on the bottom of bar stools. It covers the gear that remains perfect. Let me know if you need pics.

Oh yeah, that reminds me, I wanted to get some of those chrome wiper gear covers so I could do that.... Anyone have a link handy?
Thx

QUESTION:
Has anyone installed the EZ Lift in combination with the "Line Of Fire" (or Fire And Ice) LED light bar?

I think we have a problem.

Sounds to me that there is not enough Beer involved. Beer helps everything fit. :D

Yeah, Beer and hammers. I do not remember anyone using a hammer. That will definitely speed up the install.

Hey Kevan, You might have drilled your hole a little low. That may be contributing to the difficulty in installation as well. I've attached two pics that show the location where I drilled the achor hole and another shot from behind showing the area between the lower tailgate edge and bumper where the Fire & Ice would go. Hope this helps.

Yup....... fortunately I haven't actually slammed the tailgate... My arm just loads up leverage for the lift and is disappointed when there's nothing (on which) to compress........

It's a weird (nice one dummy) kinda' feeling.... Kinda like stepping off a curb when there's none there..... duh....?

Thanks.
In the 1st shot, I see that you drilled the "End A hole" not only a little higher (about 1/2") but also futher toward the passenger side (about 3/4"). Mine is drilled closer to the driver side but the height of my hole is exact with the instruction template.. It sits very snugly in the corner.

What they neglect to tell you in the instructions is that an incredible amount of force (breaker bar-type) is needed to get the bar past the tailgate socket. It does NOT just drop or set into place. You have to really flex the hell out of it from the "B-end", dimpling the stake pocket wall of the bed in the process. I see yours is dimpled as well.

In the 2nd shot it's hard to see where your EZ Lift is and where your Line Of Fire is. Any chance of a better pic?

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only guy with both of these on their truck.

Humor:
After finding out about my Line Of Fire and that they haven't talked to anyone who had both the EZ Lift and the LOF, the support guy on the phone checked with a couple people there and came back on the line:
TECH: "How do you feel about drilling another hole?"
KEVAN: "I just drilled a 3/8" hole in the bed of a $50,000 truck. How do you think I feel?"
:D

I don't remember why I shifted the hole toward the passenger side other than I didn't want to run the bit down the edge or put the hole in the corner. Yeah, when you put the EZ LIFT in the hole and wrangle it into position, it distorts the hole.

I don't have the LOF. The EZ LIFT is above the area where the LOF would go. The second pic really just shows the empty space. I'm pretty sure I still have enough room to mount the LOF if I get one.

I was a little apprehensive about drilling into my truck too. I figured "what the hell, it's just metal. I can be fixed".

Just in case it helps...Here's a shot of mine too.....

I just hate how much dirtier it makes my truck look.....fug.....

I understand the concept of this, but in the pics I've seen I haven't seen how it functions... where does it get the lift? Can someone post a pic of a full view? I'm just curious.

I have a fire ice bar I'm waiting to install, should I wait till after the ez lift is in before I put it in?

It is a torsion bar. The pictures show the anchor end where it attach's to the bed side. The other end inserts into the bottom of the tailgate approx. in the center. The torsion bar resembles a wide "U". When the tailgate is lowered, the torsion bar twists and acts like a spring taking the weight off the tailgate. If you position the EZLIFT high enough, you should have room for the Line Of Fire. The EZLIFT comes with a template for location of each hole but apparently anywhere in the vicinity is good.

Can I ask a small favor from you guys?
Could I get side shots from each of you? That would help me determine if my hole was too low...or if I should just list this thing for sale and get it the hell out of my garage. :)

Attached is a pic of mine as an example of the type of shot I'm looking for. Something that gives a decent reference point and an idea of how far up that stake pocket wall I should be.

If there's a possibility of doing a new hole and retaining the strength needed for both the bed and the EZ Lift, I might consider doing it. I have access to a great custom welder that would help me fill in the first hole.

Thanks everyone!

It looks to me that you could go up at least an inch maybe inch & a half. I don't think you need to worry about strength as the torsion bar will be putting it's tension above the hole because of the way the bar is bent. I'll get another shot for you but it will be this afternoon before i can get it. Don't toss it, you'll like it once you get it working.

Wow I already got mine, that was quick. It came in a chevy silverado bug shield box so I almost didn't open it lol. I was like "ew, I didn't order this..."

Hey Kevan, on my template I almost misread it, it has 2 hole locations, and the lower one is for the Ram 1500, as is the top one, but what I overlooked at first was the year model... the upper hole is for 02 up Ram 1500...

Did perhaps you read the 'Ram 1500' mark on the lower mark and go, "ah, okay, here we go."?

Nope. I used the top template mark.

No call back from the tech guy yet. Still waiting.

No call back today, and I'm guessing that they're closed Sat. and Sun.

Disappointing.
