RIP Scott Kalitta

That was horrific to watch. Rest in peace.

Definitely shocking and horrible.

Damn shame... died with his boots on, enjoying what he loved to do.

I want to echo this and mold it a bit, he died with his boots on, doing what he loved best, and it's my opinion that we should all be so lucky.

RIP Scott.

Man that is just horrible. For some reason I thought they had a fire suppressent system in those cars?

It really shows how dangerous drag racing at that level really is. Has it even been a year since Eric Medlen died?

God bless those families.

I don't know that you could design anything to handle that large of an explosion, certainly not anything that would be small enough to go in a car.

I haven't really heard any details on the accident yet. It sure wouldn't surprise me to hear that he was badly injured and/or unconscious after the initial explosion. That would explain why the car never slowed. I hope for his sake that was the case.

Half the body blew off the car at the finish line, even if there was a fire suppression system big enough with the body gone it wouldn't have worked.
Here is a picture from where we were sitting after they piled up the pieces of the body. I was too in shock to take any pictures when they were spread out and too far away from the sand trap to get a good picture. No one was allowed down there.
