Anyone using this kit? If so, what are your thoughts after the install?

I know the stock shifter is a weak point. Im pretty sure the new kit that I received from Hurst has significantly helped the shifter's ability to hit the 3-4 gate. HOWEVER, there's another issue. I know the forum probably has threads about it. I was blind to it because I never really noticed it.

I'm sure that's why this kit was developed. Believe it or not, I cooked my tranny. It was replaced by the dealer. I really think is was because of a master to slave ratio problem. After looking in the master and seeing there was no damn fluid in it, it made sense why I still have to slam the clutch pedal to the floor to go into 1st or Rev. If I'm up an inch, it won't go in gear. This leads me to believe that the WOT shifts were a problem, in part, with the shifter and in conjunction with a dragging clutch.

I now notice, with 5300 miles on the truck, that the clutch starts to grab when the pedal is near fully released. I've never had a problem with slipping or smelling a burnt clutch. Still grabs fine. But I do see that it is starting to weaken. If I take it to the dealer, they'll probably tell me its fine. When, of course, I know that it isn't.

Im going to get this kit shortly. Any assistance is REALLY appreciated with this.:dontknow:

Thanks

i bought my truck w/ a clutch that was toast. the centerforce/slave/fidenza flywheel was my first mod. truck revs way quicker and clutch will snap necks. I launch at 4,000 rpm a the track and the clutch has no trouble keeping up!

How does it shift? Whats shifter are you using?

I don't have it (Yet;) ) as my stock clutch is still hanging in there, but most guys report that the shifts are smoother with the upgraded Centerforce, Viper Slave, etc...

As far as shifters go, many of us run Boomer's X-Metal short shifter.

I have the Roe package and it has been wonderful. Clutch was cooked at 8500 miles, had problems with the 2nd to 3rd power shift. I got the clutch, flywheel and slave/master cyl package. It solved all problems. The package is available from several sources...Roe, Boomer...etc. Be sure to observe the Centerforce 500 mile break-in procedure...no full power runs...

In my opinion the package plus the Boomer shifter (Gen IV) will move your concerns to other issues! Like...where can I get a twin screw top mount supercharger!!!

I have it as well. Stocker went boom at 3k. Rice Eater sums it up for me too.

VPRPWR had it as well for a hundred+ runs down the strip in his black beast running in the 11's with a SC and juice!

Hi there,
My truck is normally aspirated so i dont have as much power as the paxton boys and maybe i dont power change gears the way i am supposed to but I bought the whole ROE racing clutch setup and it lasted abit over 5 -6 months.. Nothing like$2000 every 5 months in clutches to piss you off. Call Dan at DC performance, he'll hook you up..
cheers

Is it 500 miles or 500 easy shifts??

I just bled my clutch. I was real low right from the factory. I must have gotten air in the lines. Goes into gear just fine. :dancing2:

I will still replace my clutch regardless. But, I don't think I will change the Flywheel. I just don't think its a good idea for this truck. The very heavy wheels, drivetrain and mass of the vehicle need the extra inertia created by the mass of the OE flywheel. I do think you will loose torque, especially if you drag race. If this was Nascar, I can definately see a benefit.

So, with that said, If you are having problems with WOT and that damn third gear, bleed your clutch.

Also, for the guys that have followed the WOT missed 3rd gear thread on the other forum, the kit that I've tested, with the help of Col Austin...is a go. I will contact HURST to create the UPGRADE KIT for the OEM shifter. Should be pretty inexpensive. Here is the link...

Five hundred city driving miles with many more easy shifts...the clutch and flywheel really need to seat well...then let her rip.

I disc needs to go through heat cycles, that is the main reason to take it easy for 500 miles.

Bill.

Tough call on the stocker vs. aftermarket. Been a debate for some time.
No problems to date with mine. I have about 2000 miles on it... 10 to 15 passes.I am happy with the uprgade...clutch pedal is so easy now.

For sure do the master/slave centerforce....unreal difference.... and no more plastic linkage. Had mine fail twice. That's a holy shit moment.... welcome back into gear!
Good luck.:D

Thanks.

Those pics opened my eyes for sure. I wonder If I could just order the Viper Master and reservoir? Will the OEM SS line attach to it properly?

I see that the clutch slave comes with the Roe kit. Is there any difference from the OE Ram srt-10 clutch Slave?

Stock slave is craplastic!!! Mine literally melted! Viper slave(metal) fits with the proper shim/spacer. Boomer and Roe sell this with their kits. Its a complete slave and master lines and all.

Hey Shane, you said your Roe replacement clutch only lasted 5-6 months?!
My stocker is on its way out for the second time. F'n truck never gets abused, all I do is drive the damn thing to work and back. Looking for a reliable replacement. My truck never chirps 2nd. POS

yeah bo , go with the centerforce, and the viper master and slave cylinder, and change the fluid to higher boiling temp like motul 600 and that should cure ya, boomer has the kit for around 1500 in stock

Who could I have do the install. I work about 85-90 hrs a week. No time, I was trying to figure out how I was gonna do this. If I have the dealer replace it again. It will prob only last another 5k miles, just like this one.
