Second SRT in Trouble

The skinny on the Viper engine and oil pressure is this, if the oil pressure falls below 30 psi at around 4K in rpms then the motor is done for. If the check engine light goes off due to low oil pressure, it is more than likely way too late. I heard a rod knock before I even knew there was even potentially a problem. I saw smoke right after the truck started to knock and it was a minute after that, that the check engine light went off. All were a day late and a dollar short as they say. The company's part that failed is examining their part. Obviously they are quite interested, as this is not the only one out there.
so, what aftermarket part failed on your truck ?? :dontknow:

I was wondering because I know a lot of reps that might be able to help you with this, however i do not know of anyone in Colorado. best advise i have for you is to contact customer care 800-992-1997 and open what is called a CAIR. they will forward your request to dealer and D.M. for that area. Chrysler is usually pretty good in making someone happy, especially with the list of cars that you own.

I will answer this question as soon as the parts manufacturer lets me know what they plan to do...

Latest update - - Srv Dept removed oil filter (cut it open) and found metal in the oil.

CarDude, hopefully all works out for you. The dealer may try to screw you in what they replace on the motor. Make sure you fight so you don't get stuck with parts that may be damaged.

At least in my experience with SVT... The motor always gets REPLACED, not "repaired". The SVT (Ford) dealer told me this is always the case... as the bad motor is sent back to SVT for inspection. I had two NEW motors in my Lightning under warranty. (I was there when they got them off the semi, both times).

I would hope that SRT (DCX) is the same way. :dontknow:

Funny... because it was a Rod problem both times with my Lightning as well.

The SRT engineers have decided to send a crate motor. We may have the car back in other week or so. This really doesn't make me feel like a priority to Dodge at all. They offered nothing more...no extended warranty, geez we are really sorry you only had your vehicle a week before total melt-down, etc...

I don't want to put words in anyones mouth, but I believe it was an Accusump oil pump. There's a thread on his failure around here somewhere. :)

Just a point of view.....

Warranties are there to get you back to were you where (hopefully). It's not intended to be the Lottery.

What are you talking about...lottery. The new car will have been in the shop longer than we have owned it. We had the vehicle less than a week. It has 285 miles on it and it is in perfect condition (better than new since I spent hours waxing it and detailing it), I put Corsa exhaust on it, and was about to clear bra it. So I fail to see the lottery comment here...if this is what get get in the lottery why the hell would anyone play.

Since the year 2000 we have owned 3 Neons (1 SRT), 3 Durangos, 2 Vipers, 1 Ram SRT-10, and now this Charger SRT8 Super Bee...somehow I have shown Dodge some serious loyality, I hope they show me the same thing. I am not asking Dodge to replace a vehicle we have driven for months...I am asking them to restore our confidence in their brand. I had a 2003 Ford Cobra overheat at 700 miles and was virtually unrepairable (without a new engine) and they promptly replaced the vehicle. I had only owned one Ford previously. Dodge is still working with me, so the possibility exists that they will take care of us. So the verdict is still out.

***Update*** Dodge is my hero. They are replacing the car with another one. DCX has my business for life. They rock.

nice...with History like yours I've never seen Chrysler deny a request in a situation like yours. CONGRATS!!!

Man! That is Fantastic! ..... There IS still good people in this world! :)

Glad to hear they are taking care of you.

I personally would have been pissed if you had ended up with a non-numbers matching car after less than 300 miles.
