I may be buying a truck that has been smoked in. I need some ideas on how to get rid of the cigarette smell. It's a mege cab with leather. I think the issue will be the head liner. Help!:)

just traded my 05 off for another 05. the first had been a smokers and nothing I tried worked. still smelled like crap. I smoked for 38 years and quit 12 years ago. can't take the smell of a smoker waiting in the same line I am in. nothing worse than a refromed smoker or a reformed drunk----I know cause I was both. if there is any way to avoid the smoker truck I would-----but if the deal is too good and a real keeper then the headliner, carpet and seats most likly will have to be swapped. sorry but that awful smell is almost impossible to get rid of. once new of a vet that the guy committed suicide in and they did not find him for 2 weeks. the car would not sell at auction as no one knew how to get the smell out. finally went as a parts car.

Use cocoa interior odor it makes ur interior look shiny and takes the bd smell off. Just make sure to clean ur interior every weekend and put some cocoa pine trees

It has one of those scented pine trees hanging in it now.......pine scented second hand smoke??:D

I smoked heavy in my truck for 4 yrs. I quit almost 2 yrs ago and you can not tell it was ever smoked in.

Get a pint glass, fill it half way with vinegar, park the truck with the windows up in the sun or in a well heated garage. Let it sit for a few days then drop the windows and let it sit til the vinegar scent dissipates. Then use extra long q-tips dipped in vinegar or what ever you find to try and swab out all vents. You may have to do this a few times depending on how heavily it was smoked in.

You will NEVER get the smell out. I remember watching a show one time on buying a used car/truck. They said not only the smell is bad, but that the smoke will have gotten into the stitching, the electronics, any glue holding up the headliner, etc, etc. Their advice was "Find another one and walk away". It's the worst thing you can do to ruin a vehicle.

I have to agree with you. I smoked in my truck and it never smelled to other people who got in it.

Oh mine really smelled bad. it just seemed to go away after a while.

Well, I mean I didn't smoke heavy. But here and there ya know.

But every morning going to work, it didn't smell like an ashtray or nothing.

I would think a good detailing shop should be able to make it fresh again.

Congrats on quitting jack, it's a hard thing to do.

I used to go to car shows with a buddy. We would jump in his '63 Galaxie XL500 and the first thing he would do was spark up a cigar. I was as green as the paint on that car. He had no trouble selling it, when the time came.

Really, cigar smoke is strong to.

Rent an Ozone Machine. Companies that do fire/water damage restoration use them to get rid of the smoke smell in houses. You can rent one or go to a company like Service Master and ask them to do it.

Thats the biggest line of bs ive ever heard,,

once its been smoked in, it will always have the smell, even if you swap the interior, it gets into the heater vents, the ac unit,,

all of it has to be swaped out,, so new vents, new ducting, new heater etc... Dash must be pulled apart and all the surfaces chemically cleaned , its a disaster,, and then when the interior is out you must use some harsh chemicles on the paint under the interior to get the smell off that.. once that is all done, your good to go...

so if you dont like the smell i would not do it.. you will never get it out..
