Ok guys. Last night I was talking to a bunch of guys and I am going to put rods and pistons in my truck. Billet mains are still a maybe. I will also be doing whatever head work I can afford at the time. My buddies dad builds performance transmissions and engines and we were talking about him building me a TH400 with a good stall converter, and transbrake. He can do it, and for fairly cheap. BIG question is....... Should I sell my 6-speed t-56 and buy a Built TH400 for my RC?? It will be built, sprayed, on slicks for track use but will also be driven around......

Gonna be faster in the 1/4 and much easier to control with the TH400, not near as much fun for cruising.

Thats what I figured but I figure with a 200 shot of spray the TH400 would prolly be a better option

I'm changing mine to a TH400 with a Gear Vendors behind it right now. Similar to what you're talking about, transbrake, reverse pattern manual valve body, custom converter, etc.

Auto is faster down the track. Mine being manual action I'll be shifting, still not like a real manual but close enough for me.

Mine will have the manual action also..... Do we need an adapter plate made or is there one in production already??

I was thinkin of doing the same thing to my truck. Maybe possible to do some kinda group buy on the adaptor for the TH400? Just a thought

A Stock Viper Spec T56 is capable of handling over 1000hp with maybe a new clutch. Unless you're going to do nothing but run the 1/4 mile I'd keep the stock t56.

I must have heard wrong but I thought the T56 was good for 700 RWHP before mods needed to be done.:dontknow:

The 400 is a 3 spd isnt it?.....probably would not be a good trans for interstate travel?..:dontknow: ....specially with 4.56 & 4.88 rear..

Not really really there's 1000 rwhp viper out there that are using the stock T56 still.

I hear what you are saying but will that stock T56 handle WOT reliably?

Yeah the other side of it is you have to change that dexcol crap out of the trans and put ATF in as what Tremec calls for. Alot of people need driving lessons before they need mods.
