Can anybody help me with this decision on weither or not to have my engine just beefed up or go with the stroker engine? I heard that the viper short block has had some problems with the stroker crank, then on the other hand i heard good thing like insane hp and thats what i want .I already have the Paxton sc,Bellanger Headers,Magna Flow Catback exhaust w/mids no cats,SCT Programmer,it's put out 576rwhp ,but the engine is still stock. Can the factory pistons and rods hold up or should i change them out before somthing gives out? Any imformation would be great, and if you have a stroked out engine please let me know if you had problem or not.:hmmmm:
 
i would never stroke these engines, i would destroke. but thats just me
 
Some have said that the only reason to stroke it is to be able to use chevy parts. This saves money in some instances. If you have the engine out and are having it machined, installing the chevy rods and pistons seems like a good idea. TNViper did this and saved a lot of money.

If you want to forge on the cheap. Have your engine inspected and install the rods and pistons stinker sells. 2500 vs 5500

Sounds like your dojng what I am. I have a paxton & only putting down 580rwhp, but the truck used to put down 650. I have oil in # cyl too. I too want to know about a stroker as this might be what I do. There is no replacement for displacement....period. Who makes a stroker crank besides Hennessey(Stupid expensive). I will probably use the wiesco pistons & some forged rods. If I dont stroke it, I will use the factory crank. Anyone have a stroker on here???? I too,want to know.
 
I was talking to James at Hennessey and to build the strker engine and go with forged pistons ,rods and port the headsw/ valve job. Aftermarket cam shaft w/springsand retainers smaller pulley and new belt for sc and up the boost to 15lbs 45 hours labor to remoe engine ,build ,and replace it Grand tatol $27,565. Now that crazy pricing

my motor is built by HEP (hennessy), and it a waste of money after everyting was said and done - i spent 25-30k and im not happy at all

now im rippin it down and havin it rebuilt
 
Well "Most" of the strokers use offset ground factory cranks. Based on how much material your forging has you can get anything from a slight destroke to as much as a 4.08". Now if your willing to pay BIG money and have plenty of time you can get a custom billet crank made. The biggest I have heard of on them is a 4.25" stroke. Both options allow you to use rods with chevy journal sizes reducing the price on the rods. For the 4.25" check out lingenfelter's site they sell a ridiculously priced 4.25" stroker kit installed.
 
When I had my motor built I had the offset grind done on the crank to the Chevy journal size so that I could use the Oliver rods that I wanted. This is what most people are talking about when they say they had these engines stroked. My engine was built by the same company and to almost the same specs as Underground's really high hp Vipers. The only thing I didn't do was o'ring the heads. Very very few people go as far as a custom stroker crank, might be worth it on a NA build but VERY expensive.

I had a Paxton setup on my truck and made a close to 700rwhp for about 20k miles before the ring lands began to break up causing cylinder damage and a major loss in power. I then had the engine built and put the Paxton back on. After lots of times/money/headaches I only made ~650hp on about 4lbs of boost. Two others did similar builds with identical results. Things we have learned...
FI equals the need for forged internals eventually, I was lucky and didn't damage the block, others haven't been.
Paxton doesn't move enough air for a bigger engine with very free flowing heads
If you want a Paxton on a built motor don't touch the heads!! You will actually be able to build boost and make power

You are at an impasse, you can rebuild the engine with better internals for not too much investment, run the Paxton with different pulleys and make 800hp+. Or you can build a little stronger and add spray to the Paxton. OR you can go nuts on the engine and add Justin's Procharger kit or turbo/s and join the 1,000hp (more money than brains) club. I can say that because that's what I did, I just got here the expensive way.

The Chevy parts I used only increased the CI from 505 to 510...very moderate stroker..stroking wasnt the idea behind my build....just at the time forged parts were expensive and took 6 or more months to get....on any account has worked for me....13K miles w/o problem.....most of it with 10+ boost..
 
$27,565 mother of god. Are viper internals that much more expensive than anything else?

Hotards in Thibodaux builds some bad ass engines but they dont take them in or out. But there's a lot who can do that. I just dont see how the total is that high unless the parts themselves are expensive. I was quoted $1800 to do my engine swap by a local dealership and $2000 from L&S auto in Baton Rouge.

stroker build

Just got the estiment from DC performance yesterday it's a little more than $25,000. Thats three places thats over $25000 to do the engine. I've decided to go with a guy that stinker turn me on to in augusta,ga (Sloan Performance).He's less than half the price and doing the same work.Thank for all your help stinker. :rock: :rock: P.S. I decided not to go stroker just forged.

You are gonna go with a lower compression set up so you can up the boost? I hope your s/c is intercooled or will be intercooled. Either way it's gonna be a beast when done. It's always nice to see some local boys doing it big and most importantly, doing it RIGHT. Then it being a pick up makes it 10X better.:adore:
