Tall highway gears?

Going from 4.56 to 4.10's would drop your rpm from 2500 to 2248 at the exact same speed. Going from 4.56's to 3.73's would drop your rpm from 2500 to 2045.

So with 3.73's you would be at 2450 rpm at 90 mph instead of 3000 rpm.

I don't think it would make any differnce at all in top speed as the QC's are drag limited (not limited by rpm while in top gear). If anything, your top speed might decrease as it would require more torque with the taller gears.

3.55s is the tallest and that is more then likely what i am gonna swap to....lookin at building a 9 inch to d=go with an even taller gear 2.70s or so

Yeah, but the question is why would want to? I think it'd make the truck pretty slugish, I think 4.10's with a higher stall converter would be the best bet

Watch your stall speed! With taller gears your rpm's will be lower but if the rpm is so low that the torque convertor doesn't lockup at highway speed you will burn up your tranny!

I had 3.73 in mine for a few years. I did not notice much drop in performance at all. I did notice the almost 500 rpm drop in rpms at freeway speeds and the extra 2.5 mpg I got with the 3.73s. I had a 2005 QC and routinly got 16.5 to 17 mpg on the hiway. best I ever got with the 4.56 on the freeway was 14.

Did you ever try a before and after run at the track?

Thanx for the input guys. I'm gonna try the 3:73's for now. And keep my 4:56's for later should I decide to go back to racing at the track.
