Nice. That is what I was taught at TCU...but the professor got fired for it.

His comments only skirt the borders of philosophy and although cloaked, seem to be simply anti Christian rhetoric and IMO do not uplift or inspire. I specifically admonished him NOT to engage in debunking anyone's religion.
His comments are inconsistent with the tenor of this thread....."and yer loik fkn up the color of my aura, dewd........."
This isn't the "intellect expo" or "here's how much I know" thread....or even "world religions 101"......
This is a hopefully humble discussion on what unites us spiritually and brings us together. Not what divides us.
So knock it off, OK cowboy...?

Violence won't solve all your problems, but it will solve some of them.
A kind word and a gun will get you more than a kind word alone.(maybe Al Capone ? )
Not sure who these are attributed to,but something to ponder.
While on the subject, many take the teachings of Jesus to mean simply let other people do what they will to you,i.e. "turn the other cheek" . I have a different view (philosphy if you will) of those sayings. If you have read any of the Bible, you will see several instances of where the crowd wanted to stone Him and throw Him over a cliff. It goes on to say that he turned and walked through the midst of them, and hiding Himself ,He passed through their midst.
My belief is that He was shielded by/protected by the power of Love.He turned and left and they couldn't stone Him,touch Him,or even see Him ! The only time that anyone could do anything to Him was when the time came for Him to lay His life down.I DO NOT believe that we are meant to lay down and let people walk on us,figuratively speaking.I believe that we are to develop Love to such a high degree that we can do as Jesus did and be protected by it.
Until that time,I believe that violence is sometimes the only defence left to us.Just my .02
Django said:There is great merit to a dedication to non-violence. After all if everyone did it, we would eliminate all wars.... no small feat indeed.
But the teachings of Jesus (turn the other cheek) were (IMO) not meant to allow others to beat our brians out, but to instill in us a nature of longsuffering (great patience) instead of a reactionary attitude. That is, to respond in the spirit of understanding and not a knee jerk response to kick the shit out of those who come against us.... Jesus was said to have had the power to bring legions of angels to his defense if He so desired. Yet he was led like a lamb to the slaughter and opened not his mouth in his own defense.
To take the discussion even further into the unknown, some Buddhists will do everything in their power to prevent injury to bugs that crawl in the streets... They will actually sweep the bugs off the street before a procession of monks go by in order to prevent killing them. Likewise, many also eat no meat for the same purpose of non-violence....
These practices as well as that of complete pacifism are quite curious to me. Life must always consume some part of life to survive.... This is true even in cases of folks who are complete vegans.. They consume the fruit of another entity which contains it's seed..... So, it seems a bit fruitless to me.. (No pun intended)
And of course, being a Sicilian/ American, I've been raised to be Christian. But that I should NOT to let anyone bully me and to defend against the same being perpetrated against the meek and the innocent.
What do you think....?

Undefeated since 1983
Now that I carry all the time,I tend to agrresively avoid fight situations. With the asthma/COPD ,I would just have to shoot anyway. Not enough wind to fight these days.![]()

I can think much better and feel less sluggish (maybe now I can lose some weight ?).I am sure my doctor would dis-approve,but he may be more of a problem than I thought.
Cutting the grass today I had a sneezing fit,but I am better now.I have got to get back into better shape and i can't do it while medicated from head to toe.
