The Skeptics Thread

I'd love to hear something to contest the points I've made though.

You ignored the real salient points anyway, so, what's the fucking use.....

This thread only proves that the existence of God got cannot be proved or disproved. Yet you persist in your apparent desire (and that of others) to attempt to make a laughing stock of anyone who believes in God... Period.

What a noble cause........

I for one have been making lots of armor stuff for the last couple days and haven't had much time to post recently. I'd love to hear something to contest the points I've made though.

I had anticipated a bit more intellectual discussion myself. However, few of the points "we skeptics" raised could be debated by the faithful without compromising their mindset or resorting to language unbecoming a Christian.

We could always switch things around to aliens, luck, loch ness, big foot, etc. Might be fun.

Might be kinda short.

Aliens: Maybe. It would be an awful waste of space if not.
Luck: Nope, only coincidence and randomness.
Loch Ness Monster: Ever seen a drunken Scotsman? Thought so.
Big Foot: Aside from Mikey, I don't think so. (Ask him about the floor of Budget Blinds.) I've seen too many local shows about the guy that started the hoax (who recently passed away) to think otherwise.

Any questions?:dontknow:

Size 16 incidently and what you don't know about budget blinds is how I covered for the Moron you had me training with...Try and rise above cheap shots that are still stuck in my craw...Those guys did nothing but bullshit you blind Eric and in the end I was proven the better person. I studied my ass off and I do side work sometimes in the same field. No complaints on my end now and I remained silent...But if you want that can of worms opened you know I am game anytime. Iam not including the guy that still maybe working for you...He was a pretty good guy actually.

You're kind of a defeatist.

I was told that name calling was not acceptable......

I am a realist and yer not convincing a fkn soul...........yer just stroking yer ego........

It's not about name calling, I'm just saying you're really defeatist and crass about things. You'd rather destruct any argument on these issues rather than to delve deeper. That's how you come off anyway.

I'm not stroking my ego, I just see an absurd belief system and wish I could do something about it. I also do this because I enjoy progressive dialogue and debate/civil argument. It's good practice and mental exercise.. even more when those against you are stubborn.

Yer so oblivious to the facts of life that you can't even tell when yer stroking yer own ego. It's pathetic.

Man up and admit that you just take pleasure in pissing on someone else's cornflakes.

And don't try to wrap yourself within the innocuous mantle of progressivity and civility when your true objective it to try and control the hearts and minds of others ... for what...? So they can all finally agree with you........ Who fuckin cares what you think...?

I'm stubborn against those with corrupt motives who can't stand the idea that someone is happy persuing the spiritual life... No matter if it is a bit misguided... It's their life... Why don't you just show a bit of kindness and leave these poor fuckin' people alone.

You wrong, you right, and take that and stuff it where the sun don't shine!

I have to admit that many of the posts were just too verbose...my attention span is in rapid decline...more than four or five sentences and I have to take a nap.

Its been grand...and really fun.

You get riled up so easy. And acting like I'm out to get people doesn't make it true. Nor are you a knight in shining armor for 'these poor fuckin' people'. I'm certain anyone here can stand and speak for themselves. These disagreements already exist universally and you take it upon yourself to feel insulted.
What are you really asking? "Go away and only talk about things which don't offended me"?

I'll point out that if this were nearly any other issue, I would be allowed to say whatever I pleased. I could be as controversial as I wanted talking about the war, politics, how one truck is better than another... but get to religion and I have to 'leave these poor fuckin' people alone'. We're not supposed to say bad things about our beliefs... Doesn't anyone feel something about that doesn't seem right?

i would think you should be able to say what you want.

this is prolly what D is refering to, though I dont want to put words in his mouth. basically, wether we are taking out of context or you meant to sat something else, you called what some of us believe in absurd. based on your other posts i think it was not supposed to some accross that way:dontknow:

You're right, I was stating my personal opinion and I make no secret I think the belief itself, is absurd. That's just what goes on in my head, not that I'm calling anyone stupid or whatever. To me it's like trying to convince an adult not to believe in Santa... what's wrong with that? If anyone gets offended with me saying that sentence it's up to them to describe to me how their object of belief system is actually different from that.

no offense taken on my part, just another reason this debate will continue till pigs fly. you cant convince someone to unbelieve what they believe until you can prove it to them. wether its politics, bigfoot, religion, or who has the fastest truck.

Well that's not necessarily true either. Things do not have to be proven before they are considered valid or disprove before they are thought invalid. There are different levels of knowing things. You don't believe in god because you can prove it and I don't disbelieve because I can disprove it.

Simply put, there either is a god, or there isn't. If there is a god, it's either your god, or it isn't. I submit there is probably not a god but if there is, it is almost certainly not your god, or anyone elses god as they imagine him either. That's my basic position. I also hold that mainly people believe in god because they want to and feel they need to and my desire is to convince them they don't need it and can be better off without the belief.

In the Bible it describes that God designed us to have a relationship with him, therefore we as humans are searching for that interaction, the one we find with God.
I spent 27 years not believing there is a God, and I am now better off knowing God and having a relationship with him.
I found this to be anintersting read:

http://www.leaderu.com/everystudent/isthere/isthere2.html

Why would one cite a bible reference to someone who does not believe in God or accept the bible?

That is like using Speech text book reference to argue a law of physics...or citing our constitution to convince Ben Laudin to turn himself in...

It just confounds and confuses the situation.
