Took out my AUTO Tranny

I've seen snapped input shafts on the 48RE but I haven't seen converter trauma like that yet.
WOW! Looks like someone maybe did a high r.p.m. neutral-drop at some time???

Or maybe someone simply dropped the conveter at some point...

Ryan what did you use to get the converter bolts out?

I've never heard of a TC breaking like that.... wow

There is a site area on the passenger side of the motor/trans, my friend mike turned the crank to get the bolts in the site area, and I just used a deep socket with an extension.

What part of NC? I've never heard of Performance Innovations. Tony???

Got a phone call today, my tranny is ready to be shipped back tomorrow, so I will have it back next week!!!!

can I put a auto trans in a reg cab?
Sure you can, I have a RC with a custom made performance automatic. It's a f#%ken blast too!! Light weight, powerful and consistent. By my count there are 2 RCs being constructed/in place (vehicles not running yet). Both of these are high performance big hp/T trucks. There is 1 other guy who did it a-g-es ago but sold it and we've never seen that truck since, it was a black 05 from memory. So bar the factories Pacetrucks, there are 4 RC autos I know of. Anyhow, as not to hijack this thread, view the link below, it's my T56 to 4L80E conversion. It can be as cheap or as expensive as you want to make it. ;) It makes the truck a whole new animal.........

When I took off the Torque Converter to drain it, I found this...............

What is weird is that the part that is broken on the TC is the part that engages the transmission oil pump -- it does not have any of the driving torque load on it. It only serves to turn the pump and pressurize the tranny.

It looks to me that when the tranny was put in last the converter wasn't pushed all the way in,the tranny got tightened up and it cracked that flange on the converter to make it break:dontknow: :dontknow:

That's a possibility, but I wouldn't think it would actually crack the TC neck like that. When you go to cinch up the TC bolts, the flex plate would just bend (flex) toward the converter. Usually the gear in the tranny (the oil pump) get trashed by the converter pushing it into the back of the case of the tranny front plate. It is supposed to ride in the slot of the converter neck. Here's a picture of the tranny oil pump. You can see the tabs where it is supposed to engage the TC.

UPDATE

Well its been a while since I started this thread, and the truck is still down. I have the transmission back, but the builder took off my down shift linkage bracket, transmission mount, and the outer braces that help keep the front and rear housing stay together. The "builder" is not returning my calls and I fear the worst, I wont get these back. There is an event I have posted that I really want to attend but its looking grim. I found the transmisson mount in Bosier City La, $50. I can offically say I learned my lesson as far as transmission builders go, and will never do this again:mad: The builder is Performance Innovations in NC, so dont use their services. I understand he had a problem with the torque convter, no big deal, but forgetting my mounts and braces is just unprofessional, and not sending them overnight is just plain asshole-ish.

Seems like he did the build really quick also... hope he knew what he was doing there.....

He was very unprofessional and just an ass for not sending that stuff back with the tranny. But.......................... in all reality, when you send something like that for rebuild, you only give them the part to rebuild. No brakets, sensors, mounts, cables etc. Nothing!!! They have to pull some of this off during the rebuild and damned if they ever put it back on. I've experienced this with engine blocks as well. Take every sensor ( they all cost at least $100) out of the block, any wiring, anything not directly related to the rebuild at hand. I spent about $450 on sensors and such for a block I had sent out to machine by a reputable shop. Unfortunately it was posted on a sign the owner pointed to stating to remove all sensors, wiring, temp sensors, etc. prior to dropping off parts for machining. Learned the hard way.

I know, but you let me know too late.....I guarentee it will go to HTS next time
