I have not done a HARD do-it-yourself job in a long time and it was good to get back in the game. Sending my tranny off to get built tuffer and this is what she looked like after coming out.......

When I took off the Torque Converter to drain it, I found this...............

Im getting a billet TC along with the build, so no matter, but DAMN, that was a huge suprise to see that big piece of metal missing. Just cant wait to get it back to hit the track to see how it feels.

I've seen snapped input shafts on the 48RE but I haven't seen converter trauma like that yet.
WOW! Looks like someone maybe did a high r.p.m. neutral-drop at some time???

I didnt find the pieces, which I thought was weird too, and I have never done a high rpm neutral drop, which leads me to believe that the previous owner did something terrible and Im finding out a year later.......good thing she is getting built stronger!

Who knows, sometimes those lot guys do some REALLY abusive stuff to new vehicles. Are you getting a high-stall converter?

PERFECT- It will make the truck much more responsive around town...Smaller diameter and less weight also reduces negative torque on the crank (a good thing)..
Who's are you going with? If you don't mind me asking...

Cool.
Hopefully Performance Innovations will sell you a good one!
A well designed converter is a real treat.
If I could make a suggestion- Don't go with a cheapie, it is NOT worth it over the long haul. Been there...
Some guys just bend the fins over to achieve stall. NOT the best way to do it..and it really over-speeds the bearings.
A good one will have billet parts, carbon fiber O/D clutches and will put up with elevated power levels for a LONG time.

I had a good long conversation with the guy, sounds like he has alot of experience and knows what he is doing, so we will see when I get it back.

Felt like I had a manual tranny and riding the clutch when taking off. It wouldnt properly, taking too long to shift from 2-3....all kinds of things.

now that you are a certified trans guy i will bring mine over to install the new stage two spec clutch and viper hydraulics ,,ill watch :D
