The reverse flow thing is cool, but also easy to figure out. The media they used, as Jake so eloquently suggested, is incredibly viscous.

What I'm curious about is how Jake knows that a bucket of KY looks like.
The belt generator is pretty slick, but.....to do it on a scale necessary to power a small town, 24/7, it would probably be longer (or taller) than the entire island of Haiti.
The other option would be to make smaller individual ones. That would be more feasible and probably more cost-efficient.
I'm doubting the activists would say anything; if you already live in a windy area, you're hearing the wind blow all the time. A little buzzing would be nothing. They've got bigger fish to fry.
