I'm not sure. I think I got censored.

No...I just don't notice the transmission rattle due to the whine of the supercharger...
By the way Mudder...how about a GTG at Iola, WI July 13 - 15....? Sounds like a nice little out of the way place where some SRT 10's could gather in peace and quiet....
Muzzy said:I run Royal Purple 75W-90 (factory calls for 75W-85) gear lube in mine...No noise at all. I do not know how wise it is to run ATF in a trans that requires gear lube. While the ATF may meeting the GL4 requirement, it is doubtful that is meeting the viscosity requirement. There are manual trannies that require ATF, but that is for specific reasons (i.e. needle bearings in overdrive, clutch material syncros). There is a lot of testing that goes into determining which lubricant to use.
"API Category GL-4 designates the type of service characteristic of spiral-bevel and hypoid gears in automotive axles operated under moderate speeds and loads. These oils may be used in selected manual transmission and transaxle applications. "
Factory Service Manual - "TRANSMISSION NOISE - Most manual transmissions make some noise during normal operation. Rotating gears generate a mild whine that is audible, but generally only at extreme speeds. Severe, highly audible transmission noise is generally the initial indicator of a lubricant problem. Insufficient, improper or contaminated lubricant will promote rapid wear of gears, synchros, shift rails, forks and bearings. The overheating caused by a lubricant problem, can also lead to gear and bearing damage."
Ultimately, if your tranny is being properly lubricated, then there should be little to no noise outside of the normal characteristics of the trans. Enhanced lubricants should reduce noise, not create more.
I hope whoever has recommended using ATF has a chemical engineering background with a specialty in petroleum lubricants or someone with a mechanical engineering background familiar with manual transmission design. Oh, and is also willing to cover your warranty claim when the dealer denies it.
Just my 2 cents...

NICE VOID OF YOUR TRANS WARRANTY THEREBigSkySRT10 said:I changed to Mobil 1 Full Synthetic ATF today. Definitely shifts more smoothly.
But now the tranny has a noticeable rattle at idle. It sounds just like my C5 Vettes (1999 hardtop, 2003 Z06) did - both had the Tremec T56. Anyone else notice this after changing tranny fluid?
I'll bet Dodge used the thick Castrol stuff to quiet down the tranny at idle. I remember that a lot of C5 Vette owners complained about the T56 rattle when the car was idling.
Just a thought. :dontknow:

If you were out on the salt flats going for a speed record and needed every last mph, well maybe then............
