TRUCK IS RUNNING LEAN & NOT SURE WHY

I HAVE NOTICED THIS TWICE SINCE I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK. AT START UP THE TRUCK STARTS POPPING THRU THE EXHAUST ONLY WHEN I GIVE IT GAS TO MAKE IT GO. WHILE SITTING STILL I LOOKED THIS TIME AND SEEN THE A/F GAUGE AT 17 TO 18 AND NOTCHED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS OFF (TRUCK HAS THE CATLESS MIDS ON IT AND THE CHECK ENGINE IS ALWAYS ON) ONCE I WAS ABLE TO GET GOING AROUND 30 – 40 SHE CLEARED UP AND THE A/F CAME DOWN TO 14.

ANY IDEAS WHAT THIS COULD BE?:dontknow:

The O2 sensors are installed.

MOD LIST:
Coated Mopar Long tube header with cat-less mid pipes, Magnaflow catback
JTVSP Ported/polished, Hartland sharp full roller rockers with hardened push-rods, Ronnie’s billet under-drive pulley with gator belt
BBK Throttle body, JTSVP screaming demon coils, JTSVP custom red wires and heat shield boots
AEM wideband gauge & Aero force gauge in a triple gauge pillar
K&N drop-in cone type filter
custom JTSVP billet stall converter
HTS Valve body with upgraded GM solenoid

SCT dyno'd tuned by Torrie out of Florida

Could you check your codes with the SCT and post them up?

17 or 18 is lean, not rich.

I had the same issue and replaced both upstream O2 sensors and my issue was resolved

17-18 is fine at idle, under full throttle and load is what matters. If he was running 17's at full throttle this discussion would not be about rough running it would be about "who can rebuild my engine".

LOL ok I was like holy sh!t.. didnt realise it was idle. My mistake.

Yes it was all at idle, but not sure as to why she was running rough like that. The next day on the way home from work I watched the A/F at WOT and she was down in the 10's which is good. Troy (the guy I got the truck from) said something about taking the 2nd O2's out bk off the mid pipes being catless and which is also making the check engine light come on.

Im pretty sure the rear o2 sensors can be shut off in the programming, and the bung filled with a plug on the rears. Even with that p0420 code for the sensors on, it has no effect on the fuel or timing. Was the popping backfiring? Does it do it after its warm, shut off and restarted? Shot in the dark, but could be air intake temperature sensor. Shouldnt be much guesswork being you have the AF meter. Not sure why lean would cause popping.

It was warm had been sitting for about 2 hours, while I was in the gym. It does it here and there on a cold start, but NOT as bad as it was the other day when it was warm. But my R/T does it and once she warms up she is fine and the same for the srt10. This just has me wondering bk the truck was warm. I wanted to turn it off, but was sitting in traffic and didn't want to take a chance of it not starting back up. She is a big bitch to try to push off the road. LOL

She ran fine at idle. It only ran rough when I gave it gas and it just didn't want to take the gas very well. But once I got going it was ok at one set speed. But if I tried to give her gas she had no power and feel on her face. Then it cleared up and was fine and has been fine.:dontknow:

Have you seen any new codes come up? Sounds like a Crankshaft position sensor or cam position sensor? I had the Crank sensor go out in mine and it's like 7$ to replace. It did it slowly until it wouldn't run any longer. Replaced and all was well in the world.
