TSB for 48RE transmissions

LOL, mine used to do that every now and then.....it was never really a big deal, but under light throttle it would hunt....huh.....

Steve, I believe TSB's are free, even if out of warranty.....they are replacing a factory defect, so it should still be active....

Guys, I have to be the bearer of bad news! TSB'S are only covered by the original factory warrenty, unless the TSB turns into a recall, I know it sucks, but DC won't pay for the problems unless it's gonna kill you:mad:

FASTFOOD AND RONNIE were the first I know of that found this out, seems as tho there is a small screen inside the governor, and as clutch material is deposited the screen pics it up and causes "hunting" problems with the line pressure.
I have since added them to the website.:)

I still have another 5k miles on my truck before the warranty expires :D Need to try and get the steering wheel replaced also. I am sure they are going to say normal wear and tear on that one though!

Bro, I work here at Dodge service in DFW, and it just depends on the district manager for DC, some are cool and will replace the steering wheel one time, while others are just pricks and won't do anything but tell you to go to Hell. Good luck where you are, my DM here gave me the go to hell!

I wonder if it will be better for me to just show up instead of setting an appointment? :dontknow:

I would go ahead and set the appointment, b/c some dealerships get pissed if you don't. Then that kind of blows your chances of getting them to help you out. We don't require appointments here, but I know there are alot of places that do, good luck, let me know if there is anything I can try and do from here.:dontknow:

what about the wheel? The covering on mine is getting holes in it...

The top of mine is looking rough. The funny thing is I barley ever have my hand on top of the steering wheel. The only time I am touching it is when the wheel is turning. :(

This is a common problem that a lot of people have.

Darn, FastFood and I just did the solenoids in my trans a month ago for just this symptom. Would have been easier to let the dealer do it.....well not really, Greg did most(all)of the work.

Once again, here in the hell of DC, my warrenty admin would not replace mine under warrenty, b/c they said that was normal:mad: You've got to be kiddin me, it is not normal for the steering wheel to peel with only 12k on the friggin truck:mad: But me actin stupid still didn't get me the new steerin wheel:dontknow: There have been some guys on here that their dealership did it, I just dont have one around here that will....even the one Im workin at:D

Ya'll need to pm Django, I dont remember the thread or post , but he had a guy totally redo or wrap his and it wasnt outragouesly priced I dont think:dontknow:

Here is Prof's thread on it with Django piping in --> LINKY

Direct link to the guys website that he used --> LINKY

I am just going to try with the dealership before I start spending money.

Would a shift kit fix this tranny problem or do we need to get a whole new solenoid (price?)?

you still need the solenoid to fix the hunting. I have a good set if any one needs them, cheap.

kinda a short description Flyn low

a shift kit will increase line pressure and decrease the time it takes the clutch to engage the drum in the transmission resulting in less time for the clutches to slip..

the govenor pressure solonoid has a small screen in it, over time as the clutches wear, the clutch material will be carried thru the fluid, and thru the solenoid and getting caught in the screen causings the line pressures to fluctuate.

What he said. The shift kit will make a clogged solenoid MUCH more noticable.
