Video Post-Up! & Questions

Okay, please bare with me as I know I don't write a whole lot unless I really need something answered.. suppose I best try to be more a part of things here.

Is it possible for some members to make some videos of their tens idling with hood up, under the truck and around?

I've been searching on streetfire, youtube, srt10, vtcoa and endless sites for something that sounds similar to mine. The noise I have is coming from the front of the truck almost at the headers. It's almost as loud as my exhaust is if you walk at front to listen, then walk at back. and I'm beginning to get nervous as I haven't had a CEL since I purchased the truck. Yet, I feel a difference in performance. 3k WOT still feels like it sinks me in, but when the pedal is mashed, it's hesitant before it takes off. It's kinda like VTEC... Don't BASH ME!!! >.<

Writing that just made me think about another idea. Could some members post some videos of their speeds in gears? preferably 1st - 4th. I apologize if this seems like asking for a lot, but I can't find good enough comparisons for this to get a good basis on. Preferably R/C 10's for this with videos of cruising or aggressive accelerating up-to-speed. I understand what I'm asking is near impossible as most 10's here aren't stock, but it would help to have more videos of these trucks moving or making sound sitting in the daily drivers corridors.

That's all I have to say for the moment... cheers!

I guess that wasn't all!

It might have been asked but are misfires quite "noticeable" in V10's? Would you get thrown a CEL if it does? or could you be running on 9 cyl. not know it and still have normal idle?

missfire is barely notcible , and will idle almost fine

I had a misfire in my 04 silver truck at 4k, it was really hard to tell. I finally narrowed it down by pulling the plug wires off one at a time.
If you do this be very careful pulling the wires off the plugs as they are very easily damaged. Rotate the wire left and right on the plug to free it up, before pulling the wire. The wires are very easily to damage.

The idle was a little bit different and I had wideband O2 readers on both banks so I could tell by the fuel air mixture something was wrong on the bank with the misfire.

The check engine light never did come on and there were no codes but it did have a intermittent miss at idle.

This was probably easier for me to diagnose and confirm as I owned and operated a specialty carburetor and fuel injection business. I did a lot of custom work and tuning so I had a good back ground to work on it.

The dealer would not acknowledge the miss for a long period of time as the ALDL diagnostic tester did not show it, and the lack of trouble codes.

I never did pin it down exactly as I got really PO'd with the dealers and Dodge. I believe it was an injector or injector driver in the PCM. I tore the truck apart and started the twin turbo process. That was 6 years ago and I am still not finished with it. I am an old man and work slow. The process of getting things done by fabricators, builders ect, has been very slow and painful to say the least at some points.

Good luck finding the miss if you think you have one, as it can be a real booger to pin down.

I was really hoping it wasn't going to be like that. That makes it tough. Looks like I'm taking it in for a general diagnostic and compression test then. Inspection of spark plugs will tell me too won't it?

Thanks for sharing the story. It's disconcerting and I hope I don't have the dealership issue on top of that.

Please tell us what code your truck is producing (since the CEL is on). You can check that by turning the ignition key on and off three times and on the last turn, leave the key in the on position...the code will show in the instrument panel...there may be more than one code.

if you have an SCT, you can read & clear your CEL's with it also. ;)

He said he hasn't had a CEL--hence the worry...

Thank-You! I wasn't sure how I was to reply to that one without coming off as... ass-ish. If I take out each spark plug one at a time and examine each to a chart, would this give me some solid ground? I understand the firing order and often when taking off at a cold start once warming up, it backfires. And then on shifting gears, it backfires (this I believe can be fixed by a tune) but the backfire I don't understand. I'm not referring to the burble/pop sound. My idle doesn't fluctuate, but at the exhaust end, I can hear something out-of-tune. WOT doesn't feel right either.

Is there a procedure I can do that is of the kind that is used to distinguish a slipping clutch, but for a misfire? Would the engine shake more to one side than the other? All I have to go by is the engine at WOT, and exhaust sound at idle.

I phoned the Dealership and they quoted me a price I wasn't to happy about hearing for a compression test. So this puts some things off for a bit. That's why the questions. Otherwise I'll just bite the bullet.

His posts on my puter are too wide for the screen...so I missed the negative on the CEL, just read that had a CEL...opps!

Widescreen FTW, baby! C'mon, everybody's doing it:D

You can test the compression quite easly on your own. All you need is the guage

i'll see if i can't get some vids of the exhaust on the way home...

i have a trailer hooked up now, but i'll get you somethin by the weekend if you can wait that long....

You can tell alot by inspecting the plugs. Do that first.
