Special tools or techniques? Stupidity helps, but I've found that letting it fall out of your hand, and then attempting to catch it with the other hand offers wider dispersion than just letting it drop on the floor.

Any cautions? Yeah. Park the damn truck and enjoy the friggin' ice cream!
