What are the two black plastic pieces to the far right and left of the Grill, between the grill and Radiatior?

Will taking them off help or hurt initial design? or just let more rocks come in and ding up the radiator?

Direct air into the radiator.
As far as taking them out, its been discussed before. I left mine in.

They just direct air towards the radiator......the passenger side has a wide groove to direct air to the fender where the intake pulls air from..

So if one were to replace the stock filter with a K&N conical one, would it be a good idea to mod this side of the plastic to direct more aire to the air box.

If you mean a K&N CAI then yes...you will need as much cool air as you can to overcome all the underhood hot air the K&N pulls in.....If you mean just replacing the paper filter in the stock box you could but it works well as it is based on my scan tool temp readings.....

It is my understanding that those pieces actually deflect air from going in the engine bay. The air that does get in is forced around them and thus over the radiator. The reason for them, as I understand it, is it improves aerodynamics. If I recall correctly, it is similar to what the Nascar guys do to the fronts of thier cars. I think it was covered her on the forums before.

i took the fuzzy thingie off the cowlin:rock:

leave em in...

1.) the passenger side will direct cool air into the intake side...

2.) they both direct air into the radiator

3.) if you take them off, you will see your AC hoses, and all that other crap from across a parking lot...

Mine were off when I bought the truck ---I found out who the previous owner was and he happened to still have the deflectors and the stock intake,,,,, I put the deflectors back on ===Did not notice anything different....I have a K&N CAI which I may be removing depending on what someone comes up with (TOOLOE) or putting the stock intake back on???? It just made sense to me to keep them on.....

Not if ya tape em off and spray em black! :p :aetsch: :D

Took the intake side out. You can see the crap behind it but I plan on painting it all black. Didn't notice any difference except all the heat comes out when truck is parked.

I tried mine to help with cooling. It stayed exactly the same temp with or without the deflectors and all it did was show the OEM mess behind the grill (even when painted black). Another thing is the hood sounds like shit when you close it without them in. It sounds rattly and cheap as the deflectors act like braces connecting the grill/deflector to the top of the hood, etc, thus making it more rigid. I put mine back in and now it closes nice and firm without rattles and does the job it was designed to do by the "SRT tech pros" and deflect air where it's needed. My 2c = leave them in. ;)

Got passenger side out, not worried about people seeing front of truck. Most see backside.

That's why the lightning guys talk crap about our trucks, just go fast. Don't worry about looks, they already get attention.

"That's why"? - Why do they? Because some owners are fussy? LOL Look good AND go fast. When you get 10-15+ guys around the engine bay ogling and it's time to close the hood, having it sound like a 87 Civic wouldn't be a good look especially as removing the deflectors hasn't been proven to increase performance or drop underhood temperatures.
