Frankly, I do not ever want to drive the SRT in the snow, but I need to carry some tire chains/cables "just in case". Anyone out there have any experience with this, or used them on our Pirelli's. Do they make them and would they fit OK on a Boomerized vehicle. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer!

I don't think they would work very well on a stock SRT-10, let alone a lowered one. Chains take up a lot of room between the tire and the body.

Bill.

I went to my local tire dealer. They told me the only thing that would fit our tire profile was a Spider Spike, and that it requires a adapter be installed on the rim. That set up would run about 350 - 400 per axle.

So instead I had my tires sipped. The truck did not do well in deep standing snow. However it did OK on the roads that were already traveled on. Before the sipping, it was a nightmare.

Enjoy the Ride,

I doubt there are any real chains for our trucks. The chains would tear up the wheelwell and body in a heartbeat. You could go to a 20 and might have better luck with the chains and probably find a good snow tires in those sizes. My 05 Cummins manual says chains are not recommended on the front tire with the largest stock size tire for it might cause damage.

They look like they would go on pretty easily too. I hit some spots last week that required chains, but at least we were in the Denali.

dodge does not recommend tire chains or cables or these trucks

I know. Where would we all be if we followed all their recommendations :D

I think their recommendation should be: "Drive on dry pavement only. Anything else may result in death."

wait, dodge does not recommend these trucks? :p

I had enough problems with the tires hitting the guards as it was let alone with chains, it'll tear the plastics to shreds (in the front).

i drove mine in the snow once. i was 50 miles from home at my girls house. when i woke up at 2 in the morning my phone was ringing and i had to go plow. i realized there was 6 inches and paniced. it wasnt as bad as i thought. stopping was my biggest problem. i will never do it again thou. just buy a beater

The weather man says we will get snow tonight. So I scrambled and got the Z Chains from my local NAPA. They seem to fit fine when I installed them.

My only problem is I ordered a set from the Vulcan Tire link in the thread last night. With overnight shipping they will get here on Thursday. So today at work a guy tells me his brother works for NAPA, lets call him. A few hours later I have a set in hand.

So, I have a set installed ready for the impending snow tomorrow. I have a second set on the way. Can cables be used on a 2wd on all four corners? Is my only real consideration the clearance for the front tires? For tomorrow I will not use them on the front, but in the future it may be an option.

Enjoy the Ride

wouldn't think you would put them on the front unless you had a 4wd.. you just need em on the axle that is powered

My thinking was it would add improved brakeing. Share the load on four tires with traction verses 2.

I think you are make a huge mistake.

But it's your truck...just don't take anyone else out with you...

I appreciate your concern Prof. I am a cautious driver, and I have driven in the snow before. Since I had the tires sipped, it handled OK. I have no fantasies of driving in heavy snow. I just need to drive to and from work on packed snow and ice on my unplowed neighborhood. After that the truck is fine on the maintained roads.

Please be careful...we like you!

Thank You.

I just got home from work, and the snow has started. There was about an inch on the roads, but the roads were not slippery. YET! In the morning, it will be a different story. The temps are dropping, so there will be a ice pack on the roads.

During inclement weather I avoid traffic by leaving hours early. This lets me drive at a safe slow speed without the tailgaters. All should be good! The worst part will be washing the grime off for the next week. I will have to wash the truck daily. :)

Enjoy the Ride,
Dale
