What kink of tire chains "just in case"

I've been driving my QC around most of the winter, except when it gets into the -15 Celcius or lower. We've had a good amount of snow since November and got dumped on over the last two days,,, i've yet to have a problem with the snow in this truck and frankly i'm not driving cautiously. The only real problem was after i backed out of the shop and let the truck sit for a couple minutes the tires melted the ice enough that it got stuck, but it was easy enough to push by myself.

As for stopping that seems to be the only time i have traction! Coming around a corner if you want you can pull a full 360 :D just by tapping the throttle. I'm just having a hard time seeing the need for chains, the negatives just outweight the positives that they supply.

If you still want a better option, buy a set of Hemi 20 inch rims/tires and get them "studded" a much better option and it only costs $40 a tire (here in Canada). The tires wont be of any use in summer, but this way you'll have a set for winter and you can spare the Pirelli's!!!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps,
Shane

That is exactly the point...these trucks are so well known for switching tailgate for grill...just be very careful...we don't want any "after" pictures this winter.

Throw some weight in the bed! I plan to for my winter trips this year... I plan to buy some mulch for the garden. Instead of waiting til spring to buy it I am going to buy it this fall and put it in the bed of the truck :D

I have 300 lbs of sand tubes in the bed. I built a frame system to hold them in place by the tailgate as well as tied them in to the anchors. It seemed to help.

I'm with Prof and Stanimal on this one. An old beater is cheaper than repairing your body panels (or worse). Besides, if this is your only transportation, the beater would become the primary (cheaper insurance).

Good luck and be safe!

Yeah that's what i've done for the longest time. Winter beaters are just the best and i tend to use it a lot in the summer too for errands and going to work.

Yeah this weather sucks.... but until i win the lottery i'm stuck with this frozen hell for 6 months outta the year. Good to see you back again Russ!

I understand the whole beater thing. I have even considered that I may get one after the divorce is final.

But I have to tell you that at the end of a bad work day, after the long walk to my parking lot, I get to push the little RED BUTTON. Then I get to let it all out on the short ride home. I get to drive & enjoy my truck every day. And every day I smile knowing that it is the quickest thing on the route home. So i will take the stress of snow driving it the 6 days we have had snow in order to REALLY enjoy the rest.

Enjoy the Ride
Dale
