Whats a good car alarm for these trucks?

Those of you that have a VEC II or VEC III have a no start card programmed.

My reader is in the cab, when I leave the truck I insert the no start card...it can still be dragged away, but chances of someone being able to start it are slim and none.

X2, no start card is da way to go.....

Also, I've heard there is a way to run current from the coil or somewhere....ie, someone tries to steal the truck, they haven't hit the alarm, so when they touch the wheel, the get shocked with rediculous current....might have been just a wives tail, but sounds good to me....

would love to have that!

I'm running a 5-star alarm system called Autowatch. It's a great alarm that was installed by a whizz on electronics, I don't talk to him much, it's all gibberish lol. It's silent arm and disarm, black wires etc and never been off by loud cars or anything. That happens due to hood release or trunk sensors vibrating and "separating" enough to trigger the alarm. Alarms aren't made to stop thieves but give the owners and by standers time. 30 seconds of siren is enough in most cases to alert the owner and scare the would-be criminal away. GPS is good but keep it quiet, tell no one. If word gets out they too are easily contained and stolen. One steel crate/truck container later and there is no way to trace it.

The factory alarm is/was good IMO but I liked the fact that my key (mine is an 06) is now half the original size and the alarm siren itself is louder. Teamed up with an electronic Pace Edwards tail gate lock, I now have everything secure and open-able by one small remote + I get a cool Fangs Viper key to boot! :D As someone has said, no matter what you have if someone wants it they'll do their best to get it. Bit of common sense and awareness will keep your vehicles safe. Don't park is risky areas, be alert and secure the vehicle accordingly. 0.02c

The nerd/electronic guru who installs alarms for me did it. He moved the original keys transponder right next to the "partner" so it therefore fools the system. He then disabled the OEM alarm etc and tied it all off. Now it's out of the way and obsolete under the steering wheel column cover area. You have to get it close or else the truck won't start (obviously). Well, it'll start, but cut off after 2 seconds. I forgot to mention, one of the other main reasons was my truck came to NZ with 1 key. I always keep a spare of all my cars in a safe in lock up so I purchased 2 Viper fang blank keys and cut them using the OEM blade. One of the best mods I've done. :)

Maybe, but with a 130db alarm blasting away when the window is broken or door is forced opened it makes for a tough day at the office. ;)
Enough time for most alert and careful parking owners to come to the rescue. For the most part, park in bad areas, bad things happen.

No it works I did it but looked further into it, cop buddy of mine said if someone got hurt or died I could be charged with manslaughter. aint that a bitch there the theif and you would get in trouble for guarding your shit. Use a stun gun istead the coil produces to much amps thats what kills you a stun gun rewired only puts out voltage, unless there wearing a pacemaker you should be good.:burnout: :burnout: :burnout:

There should be a thread here all about it.

Short and simple version is that you :
1)take the "chip" (dark gray to black color, about 1/4" x 1/4" x 1/16" thick) out of your key
2) remove the bottom cover of your steering column
3) epoxy the chip where it will be near the key switch
4) re-install bottom cover
5) order Viper key and have it cut at dealer using trucks key code
6) ENJOY !

That's the bugger! Well explained and easier in print that I thought.
Just don't forget to replace the alarm. Leave it as-is and you're alarm-less. :D

Use a Model "T" ford coil  You will hear the thiefs scream if the even touch your ride :D :D nothing like a few thousand volts to get thier attention:rock:   :marchmellow:

I "THINK" the alarm still works, but with the chip in the column,a screwdriver will start the truck now

Might be a real snafu if the insurance company knows it.

True, I have no idea if the OEM system will still work, I wanted an aftermarket system so never found out. Wouldn't that mean you'd have an ugly remote though as the key is an all in one and you'd still need it to arm and disarm the truck? So, in hindsight, wouldn't you still need the OEM key (being all in one)? :dontknow: Or maybe just remove the actual alarm fob bit (no key)? Sounds like you'd still have to carry the most annoying part around which defeats the purpose if that's the case.

Mine is an 04 so it has a 'alarm-door open-door lock' key fob and a key

The 06's have it all in one

I carry the fob on a snap -lock key ring that I hook to my belt loop
The key is on a separate snap-lock key chain so it is the only thing in the ignition ,when I get out I just hook it to the same belt loop (don't want to leave a key in it !)

For me ,it just gave me a cool looking key that was much thinner than the truck key.I still carry it the same way, though.

Aha! I see. I forgot the 06 was the only one with the guitar sized and shaped key.

I would gladly carry a (Viper)Key and Fob combo, the gigantor key drives me nuts. I hate carrying it.

Does anyone know if the older style Fobs will lock/unlock/panic an '06? I still want keyless entry and panic capabilites.

(Sorry to side-track the thread - Please send me a PM or I will gladly start another thread. Although, the thread is almost a year old!!)
