Right on Nelson, I would love to have that truck. Older Broncos are cooler than shit. I tried like hell to buy a new one when I was in high school, just couldn't swing it.

HOT RAM said:I just bought (well, traded a few things for) a 74 Ford Bronco
It has a 3" body lift,3" suspension lift
302 Ford w/two-barrel carb
Four speed trans
Twin stick differential shifters
1 hard and 1 bikini soft top
a little rust and will need tires by summer (has 37" Super Swamper TSLs)
What should I spend money on first ?
It will NOT be used for a show truck
just a weekend toy,but not abused
I need lower seats that sit farther back and maybe a tilt steering column
maybe SRT-10 or C5 vette seats ,or some aftermarket made just for it ?
ANY ideas ?
FastRam said:If you're going to be doing moderate to heavy off raoding, rocks, mud, etc., I would look at upgrading your axles, u-joints, etc. Do you have a solid front axle on that truck? Upgrading the outer axle stubs and u-joints would be a good idea. Turning 37" TSL's in the rough stuff is tough on drivetrain -- things will break. Also, if you have $$$$ invest in a locking rear diff (Detroit is a good one) and either a LSD for the front or a selectable locker for the front. Gears, I ssume the original owner upgraded the front and rear gears to compensate for the increased tire height. if not, you'll get better performance out of the truck with proper gearing - 4.88's should be perfect with the 37's.

I would rather watch other people break stuff![]()
(trying to adapt that way of thinking to the SRT hasn't worked as well I would have liked)
I was told that it has 3.73 gears, which are way too high for the 37's,but when we put the four speed in,it effectively lowered the final ratio (I think)
I hope to stay out of the mud because I HATE cleaning under my trucks
I had an 86 Ram 4x4 that I washed and painted underneath every spring
while lying on my back .I know, totally anal-retentive,but it sure looked good !
It helped me get over $5,000 for it in 98.I can't get that for my '99 now !
My plan is to replace parts whenthey break with the best available when I break them. That is the plan anyway![]()
I am upgrading the ujoints now, just to be safe.
Down mod-bug,down !!!!!!![]()
FastRam said:Do you have the ratios for the 4 speed? 3.73's may work depending on the trans gears. And I hear ya on that cleaning stuff, especially trying to clean off VA red clay -- $hit sticks like friggin glue. If your gearing works and you have an open rear, I'd go for a Auburn Pro LSD and leave the front open if all your going to do is light stuff.

I will definitely take it !!![]()
Thanks !! :congrats: :marchmellow:
Just need to schedule a weekend that I can get a friend to help do it on
I am still out of work for at least two weeks so anytime works for me,but my buddy is still working and I am sure I will need his help
HOT RAM said:I have done some horse trading and can get a 351W for the 302 in mine
Not sure if I want to go to all that trouble ,though :dontknow:
I am pretty sure I want to go smaller on the tires ,down to 35" and maybe a bit wider any thoughts ?
FastRam said:It depends on what you want to do. 35's will work for most if not all situations. Interco makes some nice stuff and I think Mickey Thompson still offers good tires. Take a look at National Tire and Wheel's site. They have a wide selection of tires and wheels and they offer really good prices -- plus their staff is really knowledgeable.
HOT RAM said:I just like the looks of a wider tire
the 37's are 13" wide ,I think :dontknow:
35"s would look wider just by being shorter
I am NOT into serious rock crawling or mud bogging
just weekend trail rides for me
