Well, no way the Paxton FMU stuff's going to keep up with what my enigne's going to need, so an AEM system is in order. I think at least Stinker's running it, but Fast Jack went to a standalone system by Motec.

I'd appreciate getting some feedback on how it's working for you, what you're using for instrumentation, etc.

Thanks,

nope still the vec for now:( BUT...the guys at RRevtech have come up with a harness to piggyback the AEM to the stock computer,
so that the stock stuff works fine.

give me a sec let me find the link

oh and justin has a killer deal on the aem unit

He's fairly well known with the Viper tuners. Matter of fact, he just finished an installation and tune for "H" recently that really impressed him.

I've been exchanging emails with John Reed for almost a year now. He was the guy that pioneered the Gen III adaptation that most tuners now use.

Nice thing is that he's in Portland, so I could have him do the dyno tuning as well.

There's a lot that can be done with that system. There are even multiple choices for displays and gauges. AIM has a slick console that is geared a little more toward road course racers, but can be fully customized via PC. The AEM serial gauges are also pretty sweet. You can set up all of your parameters and warning levels on the PC, then choose which gauge displays what information.

Most important though is the tuning capabilities, and having Reed do the tuning would make for a wicked but streetable setup.

cool beans bro, thats the way i will def go this winter, it is sooooooooo much better than a vec, a vec is kinda dinasaur like compared to the AEM:rock:

let me know if ya find out how much the harness is, I have got a return email yet:D

Eric, john reed's setup is the way to go. we have one here now. its the ulitmate mgt. system, and is beyond compare.
i dont have time to get the one installed for my truck before the nats unfortunatly, but we are putting them on 2 other SRT's in the mean time, and we will have a 1600hp QC that will be utilizing the full AEM setup. their stuff is top notch

i talked to john reed when i went into their shop @ jantzen beach..... these plugin harnesses that they build for AEM look sweet...... those guys are very knowledgeable..... those AEM systems are ~$4k though, ouch...... if i remember right, i think eric suggested them to me awhile back...... they're very "pro" paxton there.......:D

If my mind wasn't already made up, it is now.

Kind of a shame I'll have to undo the work done to install the Split Second box and the Paxton fuel setup, but it will certainly be worth it having a system that should make the most of this power plant.

The complete setup is about 4600. The harness by itself is 1590 if I remember correctly.

I haven't seen the AEM quite that cheap. I think 2490.00 was the cheapest.

You do also have to factor in the extra parts for an FI system, as well as the other sensors that the kit comes with.

Adding everything up, I might save a couple hundred bucks. However, I can get everything I need in one package and save myself some hassle. Plus, I wouldn't mind buying the gear from the guy that would be doing the tuning.;)

How come you need the AEM when others with Paxtons dont need one?

Patrick, you've got to realize that this build has gone far beyond what the Paxton management will deal with properly. This isn't the typical Paxton install that most have undertaken. We're talking about TWICE the stock horsepower here after all, just on a pump gas program. I have Boomer building a complete fuel system for 90# injectors just to feed this beast. Tuning for the cam/intake/head combo would be really tough with anything else (unless I lived near DC Perf, but even then...).

I figured I could probably get by with it for a time with the stock injectors and the DC blower flash (there's a few more bucks down the toilet), but there's no need for me to do that now.

The AEM is going allow for the kind of tuning that will allow this truck to idle, and make the highest power possible across the full RPM range. Plus, like the VEC, I can load different programs for street (pull a bunch of timing to make it driveable on street tires), racing, different levels of boost, and different fuels. It will also allow for full data logging of all parameters.

Outside of a standalone engine management system, this is the way for me to go.

Any timeline till you have your monster at the track? I would love to see your truck in action

The Hogans intake lands this week, and I'll be sending it off to Boomer to be polished and cleared once I have verified that everything is as it needs to be. If he can get things back to me pretty quick, the engine should be together and running by month's end. I'm really hoping that I can do all of the break-ins and tuning in time to make the last open track weekend at Bremerton Raceway.

Lots to do until them.

Going to be racing the TT Z06 on Friday's in the mean time.:D

I plan on being there this Friday (8/3/07). I want to see the look on your face after the first run. It is a lot tougher than I thought it would be.

When you're into a project as deep as I am, stuff like that barely raises an eyebrow, bro.
i hear ya eric........ personally, i like a harnessed unit that can be put in, unlike vec which is spliced in....... i toying with the idea of that aem setup with a roe supercharger thru the guys @ rrev you recommended........ what do ya think ?
