Ok here goes. I have an 06 rc. I really love the overall look of the Hurst shifter. I think it goes well with the truck. I've also REALLY practiced a lot to get the 3rd gear shift down pat. I'm happy to say, that I haven't missed 3rd in quite some time. In fact, I've ran this truck exactly 7 runs at the track, and have never missed third once while racing. Practice has made perfect for me.

Having said that, I've faced the fact that the throw on the shifter is way too long. No matter which way you slice it, bottom line is that changing gears with the stock hurst shifter costs you precious time in the quarter mile!

I seen the video on X-metal's website of the dude shifting gears and I was very impressed. My question: is it worth it? I'm comfortable with the stocker, but there's now way in hell I'm ever gonna get good, quick shifts with it. Did anyone else here who has the x-metal feel the same way about the looks of the stock Hurst, but are more happy with the x-metal because of the way it performs?

you have two choices bro
one the x-metal, some like it some dont, it performs really really well, but it twists as it goes into each gate, in other words if you happen to use a t handle it will twist to the right going into first, comming down it will twist left comming back into second. So every individual has their own feelings towrds this.

the B@M shifter,
a ton improvement over the stock, gates are precise and quick, with no twisting, acts just like a regular shifter, only better, tons better.

And some have the $ issue, the x-metal is twice as expensive as the band m.

I used both and both work awesome and much quicker over the oem shifter

The only truly exposed portion of the shifter is the few inches that fall between the boot abd the shift knob.......maybe 6 inches or so..... If the "HURST" letters that appear on the stock shifter are a significant aspect of the looks, then I'd say keep what you have....

Otherwise, the two shifters look virtually the same....

I feel fully satisfied with the new GenX shifter....

B&M installed today....danggggg!!!...big diff...been a while since I owned a stick....I liked/disliked the Hurst and even thought about looking into what it would cost to change to auto....but not now...that B&M is just fun to shift..:) .....I would have to try to miss 3rd now..

Someone has a used B&M shifter for sale here at a good price. Let me see if I can find it.

Check with "DCROW" and see if he still has the B&M for sale. That is if you interested in giving one a try.

I went from stock to the B&M but once I got the GenX installed, it's not coming back out. Tony mentioned
the twisting action the shifter makes but it's hardly noticeable with the normal shifter ball. Tony uses a t-handle which magnifies the way the shifter walks into each gear.

How much twist are we talking about here? :dontknow: Anyway you can describe it? Is this why people don't miss gears with the X-Metal as, well, it basically shifts itself? lol Is the twist due to some pressure springs or something. Also, with all these Gen shifters, what is the latest version!?! LOL I'm getting confused. Can someone please confirm? I'm 90% sure the last of X-Metals shifters (the final version) is the Gen-X (Gen-10)? Correct.

Thanks. ;)

I LOVE MY X-METAL! I don't notice any twist with using the factory ball shifter knob.

Boomers latest version is the GenX. It's also his last version. It is as far as his patent will let him go. The twist is really not noticeable with a ball shifter. The shifter walks it's way into each gear. It really is slick.
