727 tans swap

When I do get down the 1/4 I'll be sure to post what it does. :)

Thanks. I'll look forward to your results. I don't think anyone here is arguing that a T56 is quicker than a well built automatic. But most would agree its more fun. However, that is obviously a matter of personal opinion. :)

What engine mods are done to the BatRam?

I agree bud, both have their pros and cons, just down to personal preference. :) I can't wipe the grin off my face after driving the Batram, the shifter setup is a blast, basically a clutcless manual or sequential style setup. But in all honesty, when I go hard either by way of hard launch or a big kickdown, I leave it in [D] and let the Compushift do it's thing. Can't beat the accuracy of that, 5,800rpm each and every time on the dot. I usually use the shifter around town, hills, hold on to it while crusing etc. I think if anyone was to do the conversion, they'd have to get themselves a prepped auto to really justify it and enjoy it vs. just chucking in a stock 48RE. In short, all or nothing. :D

In terms of mods, pretty much every bolt on except heads. Full Billy Boat exhaust, Billy Boat long tube headers, Roe Racing throttle body, cold air induction, Custom Torrie SCT tuned, coil packs, etc. Those G-Techs are supposed to be pretty acruate (within +/- 0.01 seconds) so if I took away my 240lb mate and had less fuel, high 11s look very possible and that's with stock tyres. Pretty impressive for a NA truck (Est 580-590hp). Good suspension setup too with larger meats (45 series) for better wall flex. I could go crazy and remove heaps of weight, get race slicks and go for gold but that defeats the purpose to me, I like to know what it can do in full street trim on the street. Anyhow, as I said, both are good, be nice to see a few other RCs like Doms, Mine and the handful of others with worked autos. :)

Carl the reason I was leaning 727/turbo 400 with no overdrive is that my truck hasn't been a daily in several years and basicly the only time I drive it is to take it to the track. I think I'm going to wait on the auto untill the t56 is the obvious thing keeping me from going any faster.

We also have a guy 1qckSRT Mickey running a 4l80e with a Gear VendoR gear splitter giving him 8 gears!! Saweet!!:D

Anyone know if an old 727 torque flite trans has the same bell housing as our trucks? I'm thinking about ditching the 6 speed

I put what I thought was a 727 Torqueflight in my TT Viper back in the day that was a 4-speed automatic with a .69 overdrive. I thought that was the truck transmission. JVX transmission built mine back in the day circa 2004. I loved the auto in my TT Viper and pulled 80-194 MPH in about 7 seconds!

Unfortunately, the trans could not hold the 1500 RWTQ on the Mustang dyno in OD. It had to be OD because it would kick down when we dynoed it in 1:1 3rd gear. I am sure it did not have the billet drum and a lot of goodies that are available now to hold more power......

That sounds more like a 47re/48re, the 727 is only a 3 speed, 1500tq is WAY beyond any goals I have, looking to stay about 600ish

That's what it was. it has been a while, LOL! I remember that the 48Re is based off the 727, is this correct? Like I said, it's been about 8 years.

If you looking at 1/4 mi as a basis on how fast your truck is then focus on your 60' times. I enjoy a fun day at the track but I also love the twisty roads out in the hill country and you cant beat a 6 speed unless your using the computerized paddle shifter. I picked up a kit on Ebay that will help with getting this heavy truck off the line. Its a rear airspring kit. they run about 800 bucks and the airspring along with a good 4 link will help transfer your trucks weight to the tire/ asphalt contact with out all the squat. Once you get that worked out you will more than make up the .5 second of shifting. Have someone video your launches and you will see your front tire break the beam which starts the clock then your back end will squat before launching you forward. That squat is your time being wasted. I go to a lot of test n tune nights and watch people just run the 60' then get off of it. This airspring system will also help keep your rear tires doing the same amount of work on each side instead of sending all of your power to one wheel from the natural twist from launching. This will keep your truck enjoyable on the street and faster at the track. I'm going one step further and installing a small pump and tank in the rear for a very small amout of weight but I can control the pressure from the cab. This was one of the first things I did on my drag truck and saw almost .5 second difference in my normal street driving trim. then things got out of hand with the mods to the engine and transmission till it left so violently I twisted the frame. That was mostly because I over built everything but the chassis because I though I knew more than my drag racer buddies, that always ends badly. Go talk to the guys that have that low 60' you want and see what they have for setups. Once you get that truck moving off the line you will be able to determine your future mods better.

Yes I realize that a good 60' is important to a quick time, I belive i have about the 4th fastest 60' time on the forum and I also believe it's the second fastest NA 60'. An auto would be much easier to get a good 60' out of(like the quad cabs) the first setup I've tried is the caltracs they stop the axle hop but don't really transfer weight, I'm going to fab up a set of 60" long ladder bars mounted(hopefully) inside the frame rails(fuel tank may have to be moved a little bit.)

Fair enough bud, you have to do what works best for you and your setup. I run highways and city all the time so had to have an OD. A TF727 might be just the ticket for you. Also, if you bolt a TF727 and find you do want an OD, installing a Gear Vendors OD to the back is an easy enough mod to do at any time in the future. :)

I have a Gear Vendors (1 of 6 made "Autoshift Sequencer unit") behind my TF727 and it's a lot of fun. You might even find as you drive the T56 hard over the next year or so and increase power that it gives way, then that might be the time to do it. T56 or TF727, have fun and keep us posted brah! ;)

Diffently will:rock: I'm thinking the truck is going to lean more towards a track car with limited street use

Sounds good boss!! Just be careful you don't go too far down the track way and end up with a 100% track style truck that's a PITA to live with on the street lol. You're an on to it guy so I'm sure you have things covered. :)

My goal it go just fast enough that I don't have to put a cage in it

I realize this is your first post and you have no way of knowing, but several other members here have offered the same thing. So many, in fact, that last I checked, many guys were offering to trade their auto's plus some cash. I think one guy offered his stuff plus $1800. I bet if you offer $2k, plus your stuff, he would do it. :D
