About To Buy Exhaust System.....Opinions/Help Needed

OK guys, after doing some searches for the last hour or so I think the system for me is Billy Boats (B&B). They sound very nice and the deepest I've heard on any of these trucks (not even close to rice) :p , especially in this video: http://www.bbexhaust.com/truck/srt10/

Questions. Do I want cats or no cats? Cats back? I'm not really after any hp though I don't mind if I do gain some. My sole reason for getting an exhaust system is to deepen the tone of the exhaust as IMO, quite a few out there sound like Hondas with wedgies, coming from a V8 enthusiast, this is not good. Do cats alter the tone at all or just make it quieter/louder?

I think I have settled with B&B. I've heard they "Can" have flange problems and that they may require some mods to fit.
This system will be going on a 2006 RC Night Runner. My questions are:

# Cats or no cats? I don't want extremely loud, just a nice audible DEEP tone.
# Headers? Do I need them and will they alter the sound any, louder I'm guessing and some extra ponies.
# Is there a B&B catsback system? On there website (above) I can't find anything.
All they sell is headers and an exhaust system (full), they do a 4" catsback but holy crap, that has to be LOUD?


Ps: If you have any B&B sound clips, don't be a hold out, post them up! :rock:

The concensus on here, or so it seems, is that the Magnaflow exhaust produces the best sound. Right now, I'm running Bassani headers and the magnaflow. I love the sound - however, I want loud so I'm going with some catless mids as well.
 
Thanks. :) Yup, through my searches everyone (80%) seemed to love the Magnaflows but when they start to get up and dance they sound too tinny to me (no offense). Where as the B&Bs keep their low deep tone throughout the rpm range. The magnas sound nice at idle but when you open them up it gets higher pitched, not an ugly sound, sounds nice but for me, I prefer as deep as possible, like my woman's voices (Russian) lol! j/k

Dump the cats and you get a lower rumble all the time...............you definatly hear it in the cab at all rpms......WOT......more like Nascar!! Even at idle catless sounds badass..............and you can forget any import comparisons, sounds very different, low deep and nasty!! I love it.

Whether is BB or Magnaflow, catless does give you more power and a deeper tone.

I have the Borla cat-back on my RC and love the way it sounds...it is much deeper than most people think....it sounds nothing like the sound clips i've heard. Some of the guys at the NE GTG at Camelback a few months back will agree.:eek: And after having it on for about 3 months it seems to have gotten deeper:dontknow: It does not sound like a UPS truck at alllllll:p

Thanks mate, I always thought cats back would be deeper for some reason and I thought without cats would make it higher pitched if anything but if you say so and are confident, I'll go for no cats. How much louder is no cats compared to catsback?

Also, I can't find a system (or part #) on the B&Bs website.
I'm guessing I want a headers back system, part# FTRU-0445 "SRT10 FRONT SECTION & HIGH-FLOW CATS" that sound right? :dontknow:

Go catless if sound is what you want...I have the Magnaflows with catless mids...sound great..not sure about the "tinny" sound you are talking about..:dontknow: ..at WOT is when the MFs really sound off.......but the BBs I expect sound good.

A friend of mine has BBs on his SRT8..sounds great....only thing I disliked was the quality...the installer had trouble getting them to fit and had to weld a seam that was not welded at the factory and fix a hanger that just fell off due to too little of a weld..
 
Thanks TN, deep sound is my main objective. :) How loud it is doesn't bother me one bit except I don't want LOUD.
I know that what ever system I go for over stock, it will be audible & that's fine, the deepest tone is all I want.
 
So far the deepest I have heard is the B&B. The only other exhaust I have heard on these trucks in person is the borla and it sounded good too.
 
Fact:
I like the B&B system.
No cats and the trucks stink.

Opinion:
No cats and they are too loud (not a good loud either).

Suggestion:
So go with B&B High Flows.

Thanks for the input mate. :) So, you reckon what I myself thought I should go for at first, which is 3" catsback B&B and leave it at that? Hp gains and performance is really of no concern to me for this truck, I just want a deep sounding truck, not real loud.

The catback changes the truck to the B&B "sound" and provides a power increase. The Hi Flow cats (3") in my case gave a bit of a performance drop but mine could be the exception here. The Hi Flows also give more of the same B&B sound (louder). I don't know if I will ever bother with headers...

Thanks mate, sorry for the confusion but to sum it up in your opinion (as a B&B owner) what would give the deepest sound? Catsback or Catsback + hi-flows? I think from your reply (if I read it correctly), they will both sound deep but the hi-flows will make it louder, correct? Also, if I get the catsback only, I can always buy or add the hi-flows later, correct? :dontknow:

That does sound nice mate. :rock: I run dynomax on my Challenger and will be on my 'Cuda (Superturbos).
Great sound, just not sure yet about deep tone on these SRT10s, yours definitely doesn't sound "rice" to me. :)

I'm using the Bullets. 2.5" in 2.5" out. Our factory piping is 2.5" - That's my only modification to the exhaust. I'm still running the factory cats and resonator. Before you ask, the resonator is at the rear of the exhaust pipes. . . I forget what it's exact purpose in life is, maybe a guru will chime in and educate us both.

I don't know if it applies to the '06 RC but on the '06 QC there are differences such that some aftermarket exhausts that fit well as direct bolt-ons for '05s require significant modifications on the '06. Some of the feedback you've received may have been from experience of others with '06 RCs and negate the concern. I suggest doing some research for what fits and what's required to make it fit. That may significantly guide your decision.

Thanks, good advice, I did notice that while searching but my resto shop guys won't have any concern if modifications are required, I just want the deepest sound possible for these trucks and for me, B&B have spent time and $$$ to get the best results, well, as far as I have heard.

i've been down this road a few times...... B&B is the best sounding exhaust, imho...... i originally wanted it because it was the only flanged exhaust system that was available & i wanted the ability to swap mids for deq needs..... with the headers & flanges, i'd have shorter mids for easier installs......
well, some where along the deal, B&B swiched to the slip joint clamp like the rest & i had a good muffler shop weld in flanges for me....... go with 3 bolt collector flanges if you decide to go this route, i haven't had any leak issues so far.....
and yes, B&B makes a separate catback system (i can get you the part number if you need it), but if you're going to spend the big bucks -- go for the whole thang !!! and definitely go catless -- the best HP mod out there......
