BigRed460's build thread

Just so I'm clear.

You are spending a little less than $10K for:
  • The purchase of Bigger Sleeves and having them installed.
  • Forged Pistons.
  • Forged Rods.
  • Fully assembled short block with the components listed above.

I've always wondered what a good Forged short block would run.

Yep, I sent with the motor with a new timing set, and I am going to provide the cam. Price changes alot based on piston and rod brand. If you just want to just hone it and replace rods/pistons you can get the price down to 4500ish. I am also not maxing out my bore so i have room if this one explodifes.

I just left the dealership and ordered so far:
alternator
water pump
power steering pump (they couldn't find)
a/c compressor
tentioner
idler pully
belt
oil pump kit
timing set
upper gaskget kit
lower gaskget kit
old viper gts lifters

I still need but I think justin is going to sell me:
cam
valve seals
springs
seats
keepers
push rods
ati dampener

Intake, T-stat housing, and timeing cover all get dropped off to be polished

I wish some made solid motor mounts.

It all adds up quick, but I love my truck.

Still going with Greg Good heads? The wait is rather long, but his work is great. I'm sure he will get you new springs, keepers, valves, and valve seals.

I just replacing all the acc. so they look new and spin easy, I wish could have spent more on my short block but i limited my self to 10k. My orignal est. was 17k, I ditched the custom crank, mains, and no carrillo's to get under 10.

If you don't mind talking about it, what are the available options concerning the short block?

What Pistons (brand, type) are available?

What Rods (brand, type) are available?

What Cranks (brand, type) are available?

What Sleeves (brand, type) are available?

$4500 doesn't sound like a bad number but I wouldn't want to purchase the lower end of the spectrum when selecting components.

There are endless combo's of rods and pistons. The crank alone will run you 4-5k, one you do that you can use a greater selection of stuff. I recommend the brand your builder uses, pay to have the motor dummied and if something is wrong it's there fault.

Arrow was the only place that I know will resleeve a gen 3 block.

new? and what plate are you talking about?

He's talking about a motor-plate. A motor-plate is used to mount the engine to the frame, cleanly, solidly, and easily, replacing the factory motor mounts.
